Over $80 million in cash traded
Not a bug per se. Found it interesting ... The expansion Nashville Stars traded 38-year old Michael Brantley and almost $81 million (!!!) to the Los Angeles Dodgers (as if they needed money!!!!???) for 2 minor leaguers - neither of which is in the top 100 prospects (the best of which is 2-1/2 stars of 5, or mediocre at the moment).
Nashville still has some cash left, more than can be carried to the next season. The Dodgers also, so in effect the cash is relatively meaningless for both. The funniest thing is thinking about the real life Dodgers trading to receive almost $81 million. The way they print money, $81 million basically would mean nothing to them, pocket change. |

Like you I don't think this would concern me either, and like you I would find it interesting.
Just curious.. what is Brantley's salary and years remaining? Is this another way of them covering salary instead of retaining? I could see this as a way of paying everything upfront rather than spreading it out if Brantley's contract had more than the current season remaining. Though I have no idea if the AI is capable making that type of decision?

Sorry belated reply. His contract is just this year, no future years, and is only $1,360,000. Now there is another similar - a relief pitcher who is 29 years old, his last year before free agency on initial contract (so the minimum $740,000). Traded along with $75,030,000 (!?!?) by Arizona to the Angels for 2 minor leaguers, both 19 years old, and neither in the Top 100 prospects. This time, though, Arizona traded away enough cash to where they will not hit the maximum amount to carry over to next year. So they have impacted their future financials this time. Wonder what makes the financial value of these prospects so skewed? Last edited by Pembroke; 05-20-2024 at 01:17 AM. |

I think this is a bug in the trading algorithm. These deals don't make sense on any level. I know some work needs to be done on budgets and the accounting menu. I tend to allocate the weak teams more cash in my sims, just so they can compete with LA, the Yankees, the Braves, and the other wealthy teams. That tends to alleviate these discrepancies and level the playing field.

Yes, if you have that much money (one of these cases is an expansion team, near the bottom of the league), you could spend it on good free agents, rather than buying 2 mediocre prospects.
