CBL’s MLB 2024 roster for OOTP25 - coming soon!

Hey gang!
I’ve had some requests if I can convert my OOTP24 Roster set to OOTP25. Yes I can, and I am!!!!

I am working on converting it over. A few notes below for any new folks…

Projected launch is next few days. I would LOVE to post it before the San Diego/Los Angeles Opening Series in Korea kicks off this coming week. As with my previous threads in OOTP24 I’ll keep everyone updated in this specific thread.

Roster set features:

- 2024 projections from Steamer and/or ZIPS for thousands of players

- 2024 accurate MLB schedule

- 2023 MLB awards (MVP, et al)

- 2024 MLB rosters as of mid-March

- Top 100 overall MLB prospects reviewed and calibrated Most MLB top prospects are FV 45-55 in real life and in my roster set. True elite prospects like Jackson Holliday/Jackson Chourio/Ethan Salas/Junior Caminero/Paul Skenes will be 65+ FV range.

- In addition to above most MLB players are somewhere in 45-55 range….This is in line with MLB statistical projections as well. True elites such as Ronald Acuna & Jacob DeGrom, are still in the rare elite 80 FV. Only a handful of players in this tier. Below is an example how this will match up with reality….

71 SP 1.9 WAR or greater in real life 2023
71 SP 50 overall or greater in MLB roster set (does not count minor leaguers)

- Top 30 prospects for each team reviewed and calibrated utilizing scouting reports from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline

- Top 50 2024 international free agents reviewed, calibrated, and placed on teams

- Although not technically “approved” yet, I have updated Baltimore ownership with my estimated ratings….Orioles fans rejoice…no more Angelos!!!

- Updated coaches at least for MLB teams

- Rule 5 selections updated and flagged

- Top 100 MLB 2024 draft prospects updated and calibrated based on scouting reports from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. By all accounts a weaker draft class so only a handful of above average prospects (55 FV). Solid depth on projected average prospects (50 FV).

- R/L splits for at least MLB roster batters using either career splits or 2023 splits

- Three new members selected to Hall of Fame

- All trades, free agents, et al as of Mid March

- Updated injury information as of mid March

- Updated contract information as accurately as we can get (some contracts with multiple opt outs not possible to 100% replicate…for instance Bobby Witt Jr has 4 player opt outs…in the file the player opt out I’ve placed on the first one)

A few notes….

- I do not “overrate” prospects to get them in a certain order on team’s top 30. There are many high floor types (40/45ish) that are older and still in minors that OOTP ranks much lower that traditional publications. I did review and calibrate all of them, however my order/OOTP rankings may not match with other traditional publications.

- In general, K ratings for batters had to be inflated…otherwise dudes like Teoscar Hernandez that strike out 200+ times are rendered minor league level useless with overall ratings of 30.

So far in my test simulations of my roster set in OOTP25 overall totals and individual contributions versus real life 2023 are looking VERY strong.

In general my sources for ratings/projections heavily leans on Baseball America, Fangraphs, and MLB Pipeline.

More to come soon!!

Thank you for the great work as I am very much looking forward to this. What Player Creation Modifiers and TCR do you play with to avoid the newly generated players from being overwhelmingly better than the ZIPs projections style ratings?

Hey gang,

Getting closer to release.

SUPER excited with the overall stats, and individuals stats for the 2024 season..

2023 REAL stats vs 2024 OOTP stats
Average - .248 v .247
Homeruns - 5,868 v 5,878
Stolen Bases - 3,503 v 3,567
Strikeouts - 41,843 v 42,554
BB - 15,819 v 15,657
ERA - 4.33 v 4.27

Pictured is most recent Preseason Predictions with updated rosters and settings. The NL Central specifically has been quite interesting to watch develop. Seeing all five different teams either win Central, or chance for playoffs in most sims.

I presume this is with AutoCalc. Out of curiosity, have you tried running a season without AutoCalc using your translated rating projections (which seem very thoughtfully structured, particularly in acknowledging the league-average centripetalism in talent and performance; I feel OOTP tends to produce too flat of a curve, particularly in fictional leagues)?

Good question
I did auto calc, then selected the 2023 season in the dropdown box for statistical outputs.

From there I’m messing around with getting pitcher stamina closer to real life. Right now I am using “Low”, but the modifiers on 1.000.

The innings per start is getting really close to sample size of 2023 pitchers.

If you take someone like Kevin Gausman, he went about 6 IP per start in 2023.
With simulation he went 6.1 IP per start.

The overall innings totals are higher since he started more games in the predictions sim.

I haven’t testing significantly yet.

I do know the college draft class I’ve updated top 100 is a weak class with something like a handful of 55’s, and probably enough 45 and 50 players to go through 3 MLB rounds.

With that said, a 55 in my calibrations is an above average type player. Legit starting position player. Probably a Legit #3 SP, maybe a tiny bit higher?

For SP, I’m seeing the following breakdown

FV - MLB

40 - #6 SP / AAA Depth
45 - #5 SP
50 - #4 SP (maybe a bit higher)
55 - #3 SP (maybe a bit higher)
60 - #2 SP or higher
65+ - Legit #1 starter. Remember even in real life this tier is very rare. There are NOT 30 MLB calibre Aces in MLB. I’d have to check roster set, but there is probably 10-15 in this tier

Thanks for responding. Just to be clear, I was not in any way conveying a comment or critique on either your process or results. I was curious because I find that (through v24, at least; bought but have not downloaded v25 yet) not running AutoCalc before even the first season of a new standard MLB save results in some significantly off-target league stats at the end of the year (particularly for batting average). I do not really understand why if a) the initial ratings are not engine generated but based on imported ZiPS (that, if anything, are conservative in variance compared to end-year MLB results due to the nature of using median projections) and b) the target league totals that determine LTMs are similarly a set of direct inputs, AutoCalc should be so necessary even for year one. It makes one (well, me, at least) question if the AutoCalc is being relied on as a “Make This Work” corrective in lieu of playtesting and subsequent optimization by the developers. While such a tool might be sufficient for realizing some broad target such as league totals and upper and lower individual outliers, I am (based on observation with OOTP and experiences more generally) skeptical that it does not come at a cost in terms of distributions and valuations of particular attribute profiles versus a more curated approach.
Anyway, you did not sign up for reading long winded expositions on overthought yet undercooked contemplations, so I will see myself out …

Man that AL East is a BEAST!!

Usually see BAL, TOR, and NYY on top

Tampa has a lot of talent as well, but literally have an entire all-star caliber rotation on the IL (McClanahan, Rasmussen, Springs, Baz, Bradley). They are usually fighting for a Wild Card).

Boston has some impact in the lineup with Devers, Casas, but pitching is very average so they are usually battling to stay out of the AL East basement :/

I just wanted to say thanks and give some well-deserved appreciation to CBLCardinals for all his great work on this.

It's a really fantastic thing for users to have another roster set to choose from, with a somewhat different methodology than we use in the default rosters but while not sacrificing quality at all (in fact, even improving on quality in some areas).

Really great work on these!

Once the file is posted-

- Download the zip file from link
- unzip to your saved games folder
- open OOTP and load the league

Should be that simple!

Thank you!

Also— assume you have to start a fresh save?

It would be just loading the file and using that file and starting season with it

My league file is a completely different file/roster set than the default roster set that is the default rosters in OOTP 25.

So to use it would be starting a season with it if you choose. I have the game date set to 3/19, a day before Opening Day Korea series with San Diego and Los Angeles.

Hope this helps!
