Combinator cards- Ux experience

From a UX experience point of view , It's not clear what boosting combinator cards does and if it is worth doing. Might be worth simplifying the explanations for the users.

What did I miss about Combinator cards? I pulled a Bernie Carbo, but don't understand the significance.

Took a while, but apparently these are cards that you can combine with related cards on your roster to try and improve the base card. Bernie Carbo is a decent Diamond, but I suspect with 5 upgrades he could become a monster. As my sample shows, I don't currently have anything on my roster that can boost him currently (A 0.86% chance is no chance at all, LOL)

PS: The cards you use to boost the base card are lost.

Hmmm... interesting concept, but probably won't play a major part in plans until much later in the game.

On the front of the card where it shows the ratings, just by being a combinator card, it has boosts over and above default Bernie Carbo. HR Baker is correct that when you roll to see if you boost, the cards are lost, so best to save until you really want to burn the cards trying. But if you do get a boost, those attributes jump again.

The combinators are rare so a 96 boosted might play better most perfects, exp. early in the cycle. A 61 boosted to full capacity might be a monster in a capped or bronze tourney. Or see if it can be converted to PP in the Combinator shop and get a ton of cards to rip. Or burned to boost a better cominator card, if you have multiple ones. More choices, more styles of play. If you have a fantastic card fully boosted, forget the meta - you built a meta-beater at that position by investing in it.

That's my take on it anyway. No bad decisions on what you do with it now as we all start with a clean PT slate a few days from now.

All you need is plenty of cards to gamble with.

Players on your active roster cannot be used to combinate with a CC card, since because they would disappear when used to combinate, that would mess up a player's active roster.

My suggestion would be to get duplicates of the cards if possible to use, then they'd be on your reserve and/or inactive roster, and those can be used to combinate with.

Unless I'm totally bonkers, the issue is bigger than that. Looking at the Carbonator Card Shop, all I see is hundreds of cards for sale, and a couple dozen Buy Orders. That strikes me as a "no demand" scenario - tons of cards for sale but no one wants them.

When I look at the Combinator Watchlist, I can't see how to add a card I'm looking for. Putting a player name in the Search field doesn't come up with anything.

Maybe there's something out there that explains all this and I missed it - but it sure isn't obvious.

I was just answering thedude's question with the post, but thank you for the feedback.

Also, watchlist stuff should be fixed in the latest beta patch.

Combinators sound like a good idea, but IMO opinion, they're a problem. Tonight, I was rolling along in a daily tourney and checked my next round opponent. He has a complete 26 man roster (except one guy) full of combinators. 6 or seven of them are level 5. He also had a reserve roster of about a dozen more combinators. No sense hanging around to watch that slaughter.

Yes - I know there's always been a pay-to-win component to all of these sports/card games. And I know that cards released later in the cycle can help mitigate this combinator problem via power creep. But when you take the inherent randomness in the game (high control guy gives up 7 walks & good HRA guy gives up 3 HRs) plus these $$ variables - and it's discouraging to get beat up repeatedly - despite putting time in to learn the intricacies of the game.

Which card are you trying to combinate, and which cards are being used? Is this on the latest official patch or the beta patch?

Branyan to lvl2. Version 25.3 build 57.

The list of cards is 50 long to get 100%. I have tried different combinations but there are all only duplicates. Well at least i have the only display duplicates checked. No cards being used are on my league team.

Restarted game. Restarted computer. cleared cache. All with the same results.

If the combinators were like a sleeve that you could put any card of your choosing into, I'd be enjoying them. As it is, nearly all of my CC pulls have been worthless to me or anyone else, and it's virtually impossible to buy the ones I want. I'm getting flashbacks of Lou Gehrig from PT20

Imagine if you could go on the market and buy an iron combinator any time you want for 5k... I think it's in poor taste to create a whale market for all the best cards at every level.

I have 4 combinator cards. I have 3 of them for sale since forever and no one is buying. It seems like they are worthless. I could try combining them with my Lave Cross 98 Diamond card, but I would rather have the 40,000 points they are supposedly worth to complete missions. I noticed it uses most of the "Snapshot" cards as a combinator. I have held onto even the crappy low snapshot cards just in case a mission pops up where they are used. I just don't know what to do with them. i wish there was a quicksell option for these.

The 3 cards for sale are:
SP Dick Stigman 1962 Twins rated 60 - 10,001 sale amount
RF Kevin Kiermaier 2014 Rays rated 76 - 15,001 sale amount
2B Ken Aspromonte 1960 Indians rated 79 - 15,001 sale amount
