I am playing on OOTP24. We just won the first game of the playoffs when I noticed on the personnel page that three places are empty now! My scouting director and both base coaches were missing! I didn't fire them (I thought they were doing a great job). Is it possible for them to quit on their own?
I found two of them in the free agent personnel list and they said that they don't want to work for Washington anymore. I've made the Nats a great franchise as we won the World Series 3 out of 4 years and never had less than 107 wins in a season. So why would they just quit the day after our game one win?? Does anyone have any idea what happened? Thanks for your help. |

Sounds like you let their contracts run out. Have to check that every year. I always extend the coaches I want to keep in November the year before their contract expires.

I agree, it sounds like their contracts expired at the end of your current season. It's easy to not pay attention to your personnel screen while your mid season, so my guess is they were on the last year of their deals and were never extended.
As for them not wanting to work for you anymore --- that's probably due to you not extending their contracts. Now they have some hard feelings. Similar to when you don't renew a player's contract or when you lowball a player in contract negotiations a few times and then he doesn't want to deal with you anymore. |

Yeah, it's really easy to just plain forget about your personnel. The good news is, you can usually quick-promote guys from your minor leagues to take care of major league positions when you see that and then backfill with the pool of "free agents". I think I just let the game sign those guys on its own now TBH.

Depending on what manager emails you have enabled, there is normally an email reminder sent to you mid-season telling you which coaches in your organization are set to have their contract expire at year's end.
Luckily, I do get that email every year. Otherwise I'd be in the same situation, I'm sure. |

The contracts shouldn't expire in the middle of the playoffs. Either OP went the entire season with those positions unfilled or something isn't operating correct with the settings of his league.

I'm assuming he most likely didn't check his personnel screen for a while -- positions could have been vacant for some time. I know I only check once a year when it's time to renew whoever needs it. Only exception being if someone needs the axe.
I believe in the history section of the coaches in question he should be able to see the last year they completed. That should answer the question of how long the jobs have been vacant for. Given the success that his team is having, 3 WS in a 4 year period, makes ya question the importance of the coaches if they've been vacant for the past year haha. |

I've forgotten to fill minor league spots on numerous occasions, realized it during the middle of the season when I went to extend coaches.

I'm in year 20 of a live start and the only year my team led the AL in baserunning, I realized I had no 3rd base coach during game 3 of the WS. I like spending on great coaches, but I don't think they have that much effect.

Speaking of coaches. Has anyone seen a coach/manager fired during the regular season?
I once quit my terrible team and received offers as GM/Mgr for teams set to make the playoffs. One example was the Dodgers. They were leading MLB in wins in Sept, they offered me Dave Roberts job....and they won the World Series. Edit. I did not take the job. Last edited by Bobbyraz49; 08-23-2023 at 06:57 PM. |
