Aaron actually played in 201 games as a dh

Yes, he did have a brief stint at the end of his career in the Arena League.

I’m sorry, but the color line was as much a part of the game as the never-changing rules. History exists. Cry more.

What, are you 12?

Baseball was segregated at an organizational level due to societal factors and a collusion by the owners (presumably). It had absolutely zero to do with the rules of the game.

Just like wildcard teams are also not traditional, but their existence does not reflect a change in the rules of the game.

The Designated Hitter is a rule change. A runner starting at 2nd in extra-innings is a change. The ability to "steal first" is a change. Double-header games restricted to 7 innings is a change.

From the perspective of the National League, all of those rule changes have been implemented in the last few years.

Guys, if it’s not something i agree with, even though it was pursued as an on the books rule to the extent that an attempt to smuggle a black player in as Native American in the early 1900s was disallowed, it’s not a rule, okay!? Also the reserve clause, although I’m probably all for that come to think of it!

I remove Rob rules. I also have a Custom World that I added back the "Historic MiLB teams he removed. And I will stand tall and ALWAYS support the Appalachian League that I grew up loving, supporting, and following.

you have the freedom to play by your own rules and preferences. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what makes the game most enjoyable for you.

Given the early returns on how the pitch clock has sped up games during Spring Training, I would like to see MLB go back to the pre-Covid rules regarding extra inning games. I hate anything designed to force an outcome.

No one wants to sit through 17 inning baseball games. Especially when beer sales are cut off in the 7th inning. It's also about saving bullpen arms and it adds some strategy to the game that has basically been taken out with the DH. I'm a fan of the new rule.

What I mean is that I do NOT use the "Manfred Man" aka ghost runner. I've never been a fan of it and I really hate it now that it's been enforced as permanent by MLB. I'm also not a fan of the three-batter minimum rule.

So, this probably isn't very realistic playing OOTP games, but it works for me. And I'm sure I'm not the only person who does this. Perhaps they don't do what I do, but I'm sure there are other OOTP players who make up their own rules.

The three-batter minimum isn't the worst rule, but the ghost runner drives me crazy. Either go back to how it was pre-2020 or have the regular season games end in a tie after 12 innings as in other leagues which shall not be mentioned.

It doesn't make sense to me to put a runner on base and if he scores to charge the pitcher with an earned run he didn't earn. If I'm a pitcher, I'm not taking that run. Also, why the 10th inning? I could see putting a man on second if the game went to the 18th inning. That's nine additional innings. Perhaps I could go along with that, but I still am not a fan of the rule.

Thoughts?

It's not cheating. It's customizing baseball for the conditions you enjoy best. I play by all the current rules except no DH in the NL. Baseball is a different (and just my opinion) worse game with a DH. It's my game though. I wouldn't consider you cheating.

Cheating would be playing with commish mode and forcing trades.

Now, though what MLB needs to do is use the Zombie Runner (TM Scott Franzke) only from the 12th inning on and the runner starts at first.

MLB doesn't need older fans. If it continues to cater to our demographic (I am just going to assume middle-aged, working, wife/husband and kids like myself), MLB will further move out of the national consciousness.

I grew up playing ball all day everyday. That's just not real life for today's kids. I don't envy them. The information they have their finger tips is scary and their need to navigate social media as part of an already awkward social time, is incredible.

Well, if you attended about 1000 baseball games, then on average you would have had one game go 17 innings. Two-thirds of all extra-inning games lasted 10 or 11 innings.

MLB is losing fans because games are too expensive for kids to attend! It costs over $200 for a family of 4 to go to a game nowadays, so obviously only older fans can afford to go now. MLB is chasing money and flushing their future away.

$200 bucks for a family of four. And then they want the game to go fast so they can send ya's home. They steal your money and you get ripped off on a hurried up game. I have no problem sitting for a 17 inning game. Love it. If getting cut off from beer is your worry, that's when you should leave. There you go. Now it's even faster for you. Sounds like you are the one with the problem.

Can you imagine if you went grocery shopping and the manager told you 15 minutes to shop and get out. I bet you wouldn't go there anymore.

Both can be true...it's expensive but you kids wouldn't want to go anyway.

Or you could live in Pittsburgh like me with an owner who doesn't care and therefore get a fanbase that doesn't care.

I think it all has to do with networks wanting games to be sped up. The 4 hour games mess their programming up.

Not that the grocer is a good analogy but as long as it's what we've got..

How about you go to the grocer and he says "I know in the past we got you in and out of the store in 1 hour, but now it's going to be 2 hours to get in and out with everything you need." Remember you have no recourse other than to leave early and not get everything you came for.

You ask why?
"well, were just not as efficient as we used to be. Shiela the checker has to fiddle with her sleeves in between each item she scans." "years ago when our checker scanned items the machine went beep, beep, beep, beep etc. Now it goes beep...........beep...........beep................ beep..............beep..... etc." "But it's all godd because we have a nice new store and you have more time to look at it in between the beeps."

Yes, the $200 is terrible. When I took my kids, back in the day, we got the cheapest seats at the Metrodome after driving 2.5 hours to get there. IIRC they were around $5. I see now they are more like $14\ $56 for 4, add food, gas, parking\or train and yeah getting to $200 wouldn't be hard to do. But, by cutting down your time in the park aren't they also cutting down your time to buy something? Beer\alcohol may be cut off after 7 but, nothing else is.

I also like to go early and see batting practice too. My favorite thing though is watching guys taking fielding and making throws. SS gets a ball in the hole and flicks it to first base where I'd need a crow hop to get it there .

I see a lot of talk about how this is because of the young crowd. Well this old boy sees it as returning to the way it was when I was young. 2.5 hour expectation, 3 hours for a high run game. Then if it went extra innings? I got a little "free" baseball for my money.

Absolutely. All of that dead time was happening during the broadcast, not during longer or more frequent commercial breaks – and the proliferation of in-game promo reads and quick-hitter ads has already reached (I would say, exceeded) saturation level.

Due to the dominant financial role of media contracts, current and potential broadcasting partners are the primary market of the major American professional sports leagues. They never make a decision on scheduling, rules, etc., without prioritizing the interests of these parties. In return, they get commentators and announcers who are nothing but hype men and shills for the leagues. It is all part of a larger trend. The explosion in sport revenues has not been achieved by increasing the number of people passionate about the game itself – its mechanics and integrity. It is the result of targeting a more general audience via reorienting as just another type of popular entertainment option.

Bro, how many 17 inning games were there last year? Are you that impatient, you can stand 9 innings but not 10, 11, or 12? Go watch a different sport if you want fast action. Baseball is chess. It’s slow it’s methodical, that’s what makes it great. I’m sorry you and thousands of other fail to see this. 9% of ballgames reach extras. Less than a 1 in 10 chance. A lot to ask to minimize something that’s already minimal.

This. F*** the sport and it’s history. We need to sell more ads. Pretty disgusting.
