In the 2001 Season, as GM of the Phillies, I am trying to structure a deal with the Yankees for Mike Mussina, who will be a free agent at the end of the year. He had a down year in 2000. It’s a stretch, but the Yanks might not sign him, and they are loaded.
But every deal I propose, I get a notice that the Phillies do not have enough money to complete the deal (i.e. pay Mussina’s salary under his expiring contract). Apparently, the default financial setup gives me only $1,000,000 in cash, even though my budget for salaries is one of the lowest in the league. Unlike in OOTP 23 (or prior versions of the full game), I appear to lack any control over finances. I can raise ticket prices, or trade away high-salaried players, but I can’t increase my budget or create more cash or shift money around. I can increase my spending on player development; but not sign most free agents. I have tried various approaches from the team finances page, but there are only very limited “actions” that I can take. I didn’t post this as a bug, because [1] I may be missing a path to free up the funds I need; and [2] this may be one of the intended default settings that limit the usefulness of GO. Does anyone know of a work-around, where I could at least structure the deal (and let the NYY GM laugh in my face)? Thank you. Last edited by Pelican; 08-09-2022 at 02:16 PM. |

I did post this as a bug already.
I never had this issue in OOTP GO, but I've seen it in every game I've started so far in GO 23. You need to go the league settings -> advanced -> and then assign fictional team finances and player salaries. At least that's what has fixed it for me, and salaries seem reasonable afterwards. |

There is no option to assign fictional finances or player salaries; only fictional players. You can adjust the “global coefficient” or change ticket prices or national or local media contracts, or merchandise. I am still prevented from doing my deal. Makes the game worthless to me. Not mentioned in the latest patch - which has no download link.

@Pelican, it looks like these settings can only be changed in the offseason |

Interesting. I checked the box for Spring Training before starting, and got no Spring Training. And I love Spring Training. What's up? |

Trading cash in a deal is limited to your cash on hand. You should be able to add in salary retention though, which is not limited by your cash.

Still wish I could supplement the cash on hand, or add funds for free agents and/or payroll use. I think I have been spoiled by the full game. At some point in GO we are bound to bump up against the limitations, which are less in this version! Last edited by Pelican; 08-18-2022 at 01:17 PM. |
