Ghost players control minors and just keep real prospects has anyone done this?
I was thinking of taking control of the minors again. I got tired of all the injuries using realistic modern day and turned it over to the assistant GM and I lock my above average prospects and control their promotion.
I was thinking of experimenting with putting ghost players on and cutting all the 20-maybe 40/80 "prospects" and just dealing with promoting players as is warranted rather than having to fill out teams. Has anyone tried this? Are their any pitfalls to doing this? I suppose one is you might miss out on the 1 in 1000 prospect who is rated 20/20 but random talent change turns into a star or even serviceable player. |

I control promotion\demotions in my MiLB and use ghost players specifically to not have to deal with the tedious upkeep of full rosters due to injuries.
I think it is easier to do it all rather than using the "lock" system to keep players where I want them. I do let the my MiLB managers set lineups and rotations but.. will use force start to make sure my prospects are playing. Though I will say I rarely have to do this as my setting for MiLB is to play guys based on potential over current ability. I do not cut the 20/80 guys, too my mind there is no need. They are not hard to keep track of, they are 20's , so unless they show improvement they just hold a roster spot. These lower overall players I crop just before the draft getting rid of guys with 3 years or so that have shown no sign of even giving me one tool that might be usable. Sometimes these guys, even 25\80, can make a spot appearance in MLB to cover an injury and not force me to start the clock early on a player I would rather not.I normally go through my minors on the first of every month. I play out all of my MLB games so there's no issue of interrupting an on going sim. I use the "rate by league level" option and start with AAA. See how my current AAA players look compared to league and then how my AA players compare. Are they ready to move up by both skill and stats? Rinse and repeat AA to HA, HA to LA, LA to R. I also use age\pro years in these evaluations. In short I wouldn't play any other way. My minors are just a "school" to develop players for The Show. With this method, as mentioned, I only have to put in time once per month. That doesn't mean I limit myself to that, I do keep an eye on things and find exceptions that may get mid-month promotions, release, etc. It is a very efficient system for me and how I play. I've seen to downside to playing this way. |
