Make Me Stop

With the final missions and card drops now behind us, I need to take a break before PT23 launches in a couple of months. The problem is that I had 600K in the bank which I decided to bleed down by buying packs 200 at a time. The packs have had solid returns so my bank has been maintaining better than expected. Today I decided to spend 260K on Boudreau and about 25K on the card that finished off the Steve Carlton “Lefty” mission to beef up my pen.
I think that I can now go into semi-hibernation as long as I can stop entering tournaments. The problem is that it is just too easy to keep that going. I need an intervention.

What else does your team truly need? I am not sure your team can get any better? Time to take a break!

As I sat out the playoffs this weekend and couldn’t figure what I could do to get any better than all the teams that look like mine, I decided to blow my PP nest egg on perfect packs before I took a break. Bought around eight packs with expected results: 6 dupes worth 20-30k, one semi-playable pitching depth, and a Gary Gaetti. I decided to sell the Gaetti for 55k and take one more shot at a lottery ticket.

I pulled a Pedro PEAK. Because of course I did. So now it’s play the one legitimate starter that my competition isn’t, or bank another 2M PP and get sucked back in to the cycle.

Where was this two months ago?

Play him and walk away. You won’t do any better than him.

I opened my tournament packs from last night and didn’t enter any this morning. If we temporarily remove GO from our phones, we can probably resist the urge.

See y’all in six weeks!

Looking forward to the madness. I’m trying to decide on a strategy for the launch. I think I’m going to be much more aggressive about selling my cards for the first week or so to take advantage of inflated prices as people scramble to complete the initial missions. I’m not sure if I’ll have the discipline.

I guess it’s finding the balance in that. I probably sold too much to jump to diamond quickly since there were less in-season PP incentives to remain at a lower level, and I ended up short on silver historicals once we got to TM2 and the all star missions. It probably set me back a month. So your saving will still serve you well. But having GO at the jump should help both of us load up on dupes a lot more than early on than this past season.

As you note, balance is the key. If I can consistently gain PPs by selling off cards from regular pack sales then I’ll go nuts selling cards off to feed the bank and hopefully start a positive feedback loop like I had this summer when Silver packs dropped to 2K and people were starving for those Silver per cards in missions. I’ll shift to building up my primary team when the initial rush subsides and the returns from packs settles down.

The market is staying surprisingly steady so I still haven’t been able to walk away. Packs from my tournament team have kept producing solid returns from the sale of duplicates which continues to feed me with even more packs. I have picked off all but four of the remaining missions (other than the Tournament Reward missions) and those four are all less than fifty points from completion. I have cards up for auction right now which will likely get me at least 100K PPs to grab another round of packs.
To top things off this week, the RNG gods have been smiling on my team which has a 14 game lead in my division and tracking for about 105-110 wins in my 33rd straight season at Diamond or Perfect. I’m not going to get any break!

I can only relate what I did to jump off the merry-go-round. I started playing a game in a completely different genre. Ultimate General - Civil war. I chose it because it is complex and requires my full attention. Not saying you should buy this specific game, but you might find something to play that interests you and can replace PT, at least for a while.

I play FS22. It is a super farming simulator game by Giants Software. I play it year round and have played since starting with FS09 in 2010. It is, has been and will be my go to game.

I now have the new Horizon: Zero Dawn game which will suck up my gaming attention. The trick is that I can keep my OOTP tourney team going while working. It is a small time commitment at this point and those last four missions are taunting me.

I’m not worrying about the tournament reward missions. I just have four of the late game missions left. I know that I could just build up some points to buy what I need, but it has been fun picking off the cards I need from packs. All four are between 10-45 points from completion.

I was going to say. I managed a couple as I'd already acquired the cards for tourney teams. The rest are a waste of time, mostly spent reading "no auctions found' ad nauseum.

I completely agree, I've just decided to skip any missions with a negative return on PP at this point, unless I want the reward to either use or collect.

I started a free to play team and basically put my "main" team on cruise control.

I decided to ignore missions almost entirely and found it was a completely different playthrough and my rosters have looked so much different as I progress through the ranks it almost has felt like a different game.

That team is now a pretty solid gold level team, with the right circumstances I could see it making diamond. As an example I am using pitchers like Bob Welch, Charles Bender, Dizzy Trout, Curt Simmons and Lefty Grove. All pitchers that were essentially worthless for my main team when they were released.

It has been pretty enjoyable scouring the auction house for 30-40k upgrades and flipping mission reward cards for PP that I normally would have hung on to trying to complete sets.

With the announcement that OOTP23 will arrive later than expected and if you are still having fun with the game, there is still time! I haven't spent a dime on this team and got them to high gold in 6 weeks.
