Players in their 50s coming back
I am playing a historical game (2001) and a couple of pitchers came back from nowhere like Steve Carlton at age 51 or something and is pitching lights out..has like 2 shut outs. How do I have this not happen or get rid of it?

Ok, I'll take a shot.
I am going to assume you want players to retire the same year as in real life. Select the historical tab and half way down on the left side are a couple items you can "check". " Players retire according to history" and "Players miss seasons according to history". Check this if you want them to miss any season they missed in real life due to injury, war, etc.. |

Another thing you can do is turn on development. Players ratings will drops after they run out of real life stats and when they retire (usually a couple years after historical unless there's a major injury) they'll stay retired. (Except for a player who unretired real life.)

I think he’s saying that the problem is that he started the game in 2001 and players who retired in the 1980s are playing. It isn’t that they didn’t retire in the game. It’s that they should have already been retired when the game started and aren’t. I’m not sure what would be causing this.

I've never heard of this happening. Did they show up on the team they played with when they retired, or did they show up as free agents and get signed?

You and fuzzy_patters are correct in the problem. Yeah, they just showed up. In fact I only saw it when Carlton got traded from the Phillies whom I am controlling and did not initiate. I was very confused.

This is almost certainly a result of some specific settings being used together than are not meant to be.
To make a guess, I'd say it's probably something like 'retire according to history' being unchecked, but recalc being turned on and the development engine turned off, which would mean that players will continue to be recalc'd at their talent level for the last season they played but never automatically retired pretty much forever.
