Official OOTP Go! initial impressions thread!

I downloaded it yesterday on my ipad and honestly i'm amazing and impressed. I have been playing 22 but did not expect GO to be this good. I find the PbP and the overall gameplay to run much more smoother than on my PC....this may just be my gto-to instead of using my laptop. I don't know what it is, but this is better than the 22 version, the animations are just so much more smoother and on my pc the pbp is laggy, but the truth is i would prefer to have the option to take the PbP off the screen, but you guys do not have that options...anyway I'm very happy with this version. Thank you once again

Loving it so far. The lack of historical minors is my main bugbear, and I likely won't be purchasing historical seasons until that feature is in, but the core itself is wonderful for fictional and modern play!

Initial impression: Wow, this is a complicated UI. Going to take some time to learn. I liked the MLBM one better.

I’m less hardcore than most here… I played desktop OOTP about a decade ago, and really enjoyed the previous iOS incarnations on iPad. Still have the MLBM app installed, although it doesn’t run anymore on iOS 14.

I guess I was expecting something along the lines of that interface. It was clean; easy to use on mobile. This one is TOTALLY different. Maybe I’ll get used to it in time; maybe it’s even better. But it did take the wind out of my enthusiasm to get in and play a game.

I recognize this isn’t terribly fair or constructive criticism, but you’re asking for first impressions, and that’s mine.

Could there possibly be a feature where you can hold a players name to get the stats to show up? Rather than clocking and then having to go back.

Hello there OOTP community. This is my first few hours with this app. I might have as much experience with MLB Manger as anyone on the planet as it was the only game I played ( hours a day) for years. However, even though I own one of the OOTP desktop versions I never was home enough to play it. So needless to say I anticipated this mobile release as much as anyone. I will play with it for a week and probably ask a few more questions before I give my final feedback.

As of right now one feature I already see missing from
this version thought is the ability to edit players salary in their editor. That was a nice feature I’d love to have back( it could help to make up for not being able to pay some of a players salary in a trade among other things). Also, another feature which wasn’t on MLB Manger but would be nice would be the ability to edit your teams budget. It’s interesting to see how quickly you can turn around a low budget bottom dweller team if you give them a better budget etc.

Anyways, OOTP always makes the best baseball manger game on the market and this new mobile version was a huge accomplishment by the OOTP team. So a big big congrats on making this new version. Thanks once again.

If it can't connect with OOTPB what is the selling point? It might be fun to check some box scores or listen to games. But playing on a large iphone doesn't seem practical.....i guess i am not target market because i don't enjoy playing games on phone......i love BIG screen ........

Is there a way to activate the ghost runner extra inning rule?

2 - League Settings --> Rules (be sure to enable Advanced mode)

On your home screen one of the headers in the displays is the injury list. You could also look in your Team Transactions page and change the header to injured list as well.

I’ve noticed this for years in OOTP and mobile, that there are too many GDPs broken up on hard slides and collisions at home plate. These rarely happen due to recent rule changes.

Also, too many runners thrown out at home on suicide squeeze. Should rarely happen if bunt is down, yet it seemsvto happen more than 50% of the time .

Downloaded yesterday and very impressed so far. Will take some getting used to the navigation but it's great to have such a full-featured OOTP on the go.

Am I missing something or is there no way to retain salary right now? It's one of my favorite aspects of finessing a trade and would love to see it added if it's not there currently.

I second this (and will also note in the bugs thread). Scrolling is a challenge and doesn’t seem like something that should be difficult to smooth out on iOS.

Game is great so far. I can't figure out how to cross-save between iPhone and iPad (presumably via the cloud?) - I thought I saw that this should be automatic so if someone knows where the setting is, please let me know. Also the scrolling issue that someone else mentioned, and I just responded on. There are other UI issues, such as drop box sizes and font/screen size issues, that will hopefully get worked out. I've noticed that a couple of player histories are really off.

I've been playing for a week or so now (long time user of the game on my phone), and the "middle of a game" issue is a biggie IMO. It's a huge issue for those of us who can only go a few innings and then have to do something else.

Otherwise, the interface takes some getting used to compared to the old versions, but it doesn't take that long, plus you are rewarded with a lot more features and options, so good trade-off.

My only other comments so far:

1. I miss commentary/advice on trade possibilities.

2. The ball size is too small to track easily on my iPhone X. Not a big deal.

3. In old versions, you could start with a historical team but have the amateur draft each year be fictional players. Haven't seen an option for that?

4. I wish the play-by-play window was more like the old style, with more than two lines visible and the ability to scroll back through it. With the animation being a little hard to see on a phone, sometimes I'm like, "Wait, what just happened???"

Overall, an amazingly deep game, much more advanced than previous versions. Well done.

EDIT: I see that the newest patch (not yet available in the Apple Store) will include a "save and exit game" option. Excellent!
