Is my Mac just not good enough for OOTP22?

My Mac laptop heats up like crazy and the fan is so loud when playing OOTP, but it runs just fine when using any other app. I have:

MacBook Pro (16-inch 2019)
2.6GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
16GB of 2667 MHz DDR4
AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4GB graphics card

I am no computer genius, but this seems like a decent machine. Are there settings I can change to help with the heat/fan?

Should I consider a PC gaming laptop? If so, which one?

Thank you.

Yikes! My 13"MBP used to heat up like crazy playing previous versions of ootp when I attempted 3d. Granted, it is a 2012 i7, so quite old. I switched to a Windows machine this year and it runs like a dream on it when doing 3d mode. It could be a mac thing as yours seems more than robust enough to handle it.

I had the 2020 16 inch MacBook Pro and it also was pretty loud with OOTP 21. I don't have it anymore for OOTP 22 as I swapped it for an M1 MacBook Air.

I did use smcfancontrol to quiet the fans but that obviously isn't recommended so a use at your own risk thing.

It's really a shame that they just completely forgot that ~30% of their customers owned and play the game on a Mac. After the first day, when the stuttering was ID'd, I haven't seen any advice other than upgrade to the newest ioS version, which many of us are unable to do. I'm fine because it really only affects the stuttering on playing out games and I'm a simmer so I don't really care but it would have been nice to have gotten a little more consideration.

My MacBook is very similar to what you have. MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019. Mine is a Core i9 and the Graphics is Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB. Same memory as yours.

I have had more problems in just a few weeks with OOTP22 than I have ever had with any OOTP version (I have purchased annually since OOTP7). I've owned MacBooks for the last 5 OOTP versions (maybe 6), and OOTP21 worked fine on the MacBook I currently have. I updated to Big Sur OS11, which corrected several earlier problems I was having with OOTP22, but I still have issues with window sizing and the stadium construction kit (no Save Ballpark button) that are unresolved.

It's been quite frustrating. As you mentioned, I'm also not overly tech savvy, and I feel that has become more and more important as OOTP has evolved through the years (and, at an advanced age - old geezer - I'm not going to become much more proficient). These first weeks of 22 have been quite frustrating. I'm really hoping the developers take a close look at OOTP's interaction with Macs, because I'm not going back to PCs anytime soon - and don't feel I should need to just to be able to use OOTP.

I'm curious about what issues the Devs have failed to fix on Macs for years? Like others here I have had Macs for money versions of OOTP and I guess I am just lucky since I haven't had issues. That also goes for OOTP 22 on my M1 MacBook.

Point being if they have fixed issues before on Macs what makes you think they won't be fixing these?

Last year I had the same MacBook as you and it did get a little warm and the fans kicked on some while playing OOTP21. The game seem to run fine though. We gave that computer to our granddaughter since she needed one for college.

I took over my wife's surface book 2 (15 in) and she got a new IPAD.
OOTP 22 runs great on the Surface Book 2. The bottom gets a little warm while playing OOTP 22 in 3d but the fans seldom turn on or I just don't notice them.
I would call the Surface Book 2 a very basic gaming computer. I7 core and a 1060 graphics card.
Maybe the new M1 macbooks really are a lot better than the intel Macbooks. Interesting.

Thank you all so far for your input. I wonder if Markus or team will chime in with some advice (settings changes?) or other helpful thoughts.
