Perfect Draft Impressions

Anybody try this out yet?

Thoughts?

I just finished my draft. I think it is an interesting concept and could be a great way for players who don't spend hours crafting the perfect Tournament teams for different levels.

I ended up with only 1 catcher though because all of my iron options were Pitchers, except 1 infielder. Would be nice is somehow the card options that show up would fill needs on the roster.

We will see how my team plays out!

I think it would be really helpful to have a secondary information popup/window/display of some kind where you can see any secondary positions and what the component defensive attributes are. At least until we know these cards better (but, even then) that would be a helpful QoL thing.

You can right click on the card and open their full profile.

Draft

After the first 3 rounds, shouldn't each group of 12 cards include 1 LHSP, 1 RHSP, 1 LHRP, 1 RHRP, and 1 guy for each position? And they should be shown in the same positions. i.e.
Row 1 LHSP RHSP LHRP RHRP
Row 2 Catch 1st 2nd 3rd
Row 3 Short Left Center Right

It takes quite a bit of time to figure out what positions are available. And I had one draft where I didn't get a 1B option between rounds 4 and 13; since I elected not to use one of my round 4 picks, I ended up with an iron platoon at 1B.

If there was some consistency involved (there are alternatives to what I propose here), then the drafts would have a higher strategic component rather than a high luck component.

That is very helpful, thank you.

However, there seems to be an issue when you start editing the roster directly after the draft; I asked the AI to do my lineups & pitching, but then when I tried to make changes, hitting submit did not save these changes.

As the game stands now, it is very unenjoyable to play this mode with under 10 minutes to get to know your team, make edits and change player strategies and team strategy based on your personnel, especially when submit fails like that. I think more like 30 minutes should be allowed before the first game to have time to set strategies.

Inconsistency is the point. Its supposed to be random and create interesting choices as you progress through the draft. Not take that big 1B in round 2? You might end up with an iron.

A cookie-cutter, copy/paste format is not what we are going for here.

That being said, we have already tweaked the coding to give a bit more balance between positions, especially in the later rounds

We want to keep the time relatively low so people can continue to get in events and enjoy them without having to wait constantly for the last team to get their draft in, but we are keeping an eye on feedback in this regard

Not saving the lineup is an unfortunate happening, we'll keep an eye on reports of that as well

I also just experienced a draft where I completely ran out of time in round 11, and it wouldn't give me a chance to draft rounds 12 and 13.

Unfortunately, right clicking on the card to see the player ratings page wipes out any previous pick you've made on that round already.
I have trouble reading small print on the PC, and have ADD, so I can't readily remember which card I already had selected, so I have to hover my mouse over each player again and try to remember which one I already picked.

I will probably pass on this game mode if you can't tweak things.
Here I was about the 15th team signed up for the tournament, wind up with a 19 player team and will have to wait for the tourney to even fill up so I can lose and join another

Perfect draft is fun and I really like the idea. One issue, though, is that going through the draft every time takes up a "lot" of time --- at least 15 to 20 minutes, and that's assuming you go with the way the computer sets your team up at the end.

I would really like the ability to be able to save out a draft you have and re-use it in future games, at least for a period of time --- like a week.

Saving drafts is impossible as each and every time you enter a PD its a random selection of cards, so this would break the coding

A way to spend more time playing is the whole point.

I like it Kris. Seems like a lot of people here are just completely unfamiliar with the concept of playing limited from MTG and such but will understand in time.

Yes, it would be a bit strange to play Perfect Draft without a draft.

Here's the thing also, this is PD 1.0. There's LOTS and LOTS of ideas we have and avenues we can expand it in the future. Like all things, it's not going to be for everyone, we get that, but the expansion of PD into other cool & fun things is inevitable

Thank you Kris! I am enjoying it. I agree that it's very quick - doesn't let you get to know the players that much - but it's a great idea and fun to see and use new cards.

How do I exit out of a tournament that I have set rosters for? I am in the YOUR TOURNAMENTS tab and clicked on the (+) but do not see any option to be removed like I used to for regular tournaments.

You cannot, once you draft, you are locked in.

One thing I would suggest is that the cards be bigger or a scroll added. I know it looks better to have everything on one screen, but some can be hard to read without hovering over. For ex. I like the 90s card art, but the white on green is kind of tough to read normally and it gets more difficult to read in the draft screen and I'm using a 15" laptop. Smaller screens I imagine make it harder to see.

I do think the time thing will get easier with multiple plays as it's just unfamiliar at this point. I want to play this, regular perfect team, tourneys, etc. so I'm not sure I want to spend more than 20 min on a draft anyway.

I really loved the concept and completed my first draft. I think it's ample amount of time. If you gave people all the time they wanted, it'd turn into my old Fantasy Football drafts. There's always that one person who'll take his five minutes and then a few more and then say ok.... wait....

The only feedback I have after the first one is this... The games seemed to have the outcome more like that of a slow pitch softball tournament. Not sure if that's the power skew in the new version or just the variance of hitters ratings to pitchers ratings if you didn't draft pitchers well. I smoked teams 28-5, had some 19-15 games, and then in the semi's I got torched 29-3.

Still fun regardless, just don't know if it will portray more of a lack of realism in competition or if that is by design if you picked poorly.

+1. If the player name and position was listed above each card it would be easier to read/see/decide.
