Pitch around
When does it make sense to pitch around and what pitchers skills are essential to be successful? I guess the lower the batter's eye rating the better.

I'm no expert by any means, but I will tell you how I tend to use it.
I only use it if there are already two outs and 1st base is open. If the current hitter has really good Contact and Power ratings, but the next planned batter does not, I will often pitch around the current hitter and try to get him to take a bad pitch. It's not a very scientific approach, I know, but tends to work for me. If I'm really afraid of the current hitter, such as Ty Cobb's incarnation in my current 1907 season, I will just walk him to get to the lesser hitter. |

I agree with this. Works best with pitchers who have good control vs hitters with low avoid K.
