This is a cross-post from general, but does involve perfect team (at the bottom), care to help?

POST FROM GENERAL, THE PERFECT TEAM PART WILL BE THE FIRST COMMENT.

Wow, time has gone so slow. I thought for sure it was already 2021. How could I forget.

It's only been 2 months and 2 weeks, not 13 months, that obviously way off. This was our first christmas without my brother, but I know he was smiling down with all the conservation about him. I'm just going to re-paste my thread, now that I can think a little clearer then I could a few minutes ago.

So, we were huddled up tonight, a few days after Christmas, thinking what would my brother be doing right now? And, my parents went and did their thing, mainly looking at the cross in the backyard, that they put in remembrance.

I took a different approach. Before my brother passed, he was insistent on teaching me the ins and outs of perfect team, and ootp. He had notes upon notes that I didn't want to throw away. So, I kept them all, and it's a good flashback on what he was planning on doing with his teams. Brought back a lot of memories. The people, that have lost someone you're close to, you know the feeling.

So, I logged on to his perfect team, and broke out the pen and paper, and started doing what he would normally be doing. Listing his position players, and starting pitchers, and now that his coins have grown from not spending any in a year, I plan on upgrading his team with the 170,000 coins, and trying to win a league championship.

Looking at his team, he has 7 diamond batters, 3 diamond pitchers, and 1 perfect 100 pitcher, and 170k to work with to "buy" a championship team, yes, I'm going to Yankee it. He's currently in the Iron league, so I don't imagine it being too difficult, but I don't know?

This is going to be cross posted into the perfect team, so we can discuss players to obtain. So'll leave this part a little wonky.

PLEASE READ THIS FINAL PART
I hate to do this, but last round we raised $95, with Covid-19, late fees have been adding up on the credit card i opened up to pay for funeral services. If we could get some support going, getting this paid off and having the fees stop being generated, would be a god send, with all the current stress were all dealing with.

There were a lot of kind words in his inbox, I'm sorry I didn't reply to any of them. Like I said in the topic title, I haven't checked his account in october.

Thanks again!

Ok guys, can you help me win his league in his honor, if you will.

Im going to post his lineup - he has 170k to upgrade, and is in iron league. Im just going to follow what you say.

Roster coming next.

SP -
Justin Verlander (100)
Jack Flaherty (95)
Yu Darvish (94)
Kevin Gausman (86)
Luis Paneto (89)

CP
Liam Hendricks (97)

RP
Trevor Bauer (81? cant tell)
Shohei Ohtani (78)
Archie Bradley (81)
Jeff Nelson (83)
Togie Pittinger (85)
Sonny Gray (88)
Bobby Ayala (86)

Lineup
C Yasmani Grandal (93)
1B Vlad Jr (83)
2B O Albies (92)
3B Rendon (95)
SS A Fletcher (90)
LF Bryant (86)
CF Magee (93)
RF Roberts (86)
DH Bregman (92)

Bench
Doerr (91)

Ok, we have 165k ish, name some upgrades , and where to start. With that amount of coins, and a decent base, and being iron league, we should be able to take one down for him. The account hasnt been touched since he passed in october

165k may not be able to buy you an iron title this week, but you can gradually add to it and you can challenge for honors in the next few weeks.

Start by shifting away from the current crop of live players. If you don't want to use the points to complete the live series collections, then we have to find historical players who will be able to succeed at this level. Look into the cheaper FOTF players like Todd Helton & Andre Dawson who can rake in the lower levels. Also, if you can swing it, hitters like Kirby Puckett & Vladimir Guerrero (both 100 OVR Special Edition players) are great. Cheaper historical gold hitters include Dick Groat, Manny Mota, Vada Pinson, Zeke Bonura, Freddie Lindstrom.

If it's pitching you're looking for, don't sleep on a lot of the historical diamonds. Peak legends like Don Sutton, Jerry Reuss, Chief Bender, etc. are reasonably cheap (20k-35k range). If you don't improve the offense right away, you could easily add at least 3 of those historical diamond arms that'll be good for iron and bronze.

What do you think, should we go with a dominate staff, and just eek out a few runs, or just bash the hell out of it?

He never showed me the inner workings of it, just the basics of PT (I am very familiar with ootp tho).

Iron league is low level right? I just want to win one for him.

Remember, we can also sell the players we do have.

If you can sell the live players you have, then I suggest you do that, you could probably gat another 60k out of them. After that it might be better to sell off some of your historical diamonds as well and trade them for better ones. In the end if you sold your whole team off and then you could end up with somewhere in the 270k range and then you can get some real stars and some complimentary players as well.

170K is easily enough to finish the live missions. In Iron a team made up of just Live mission rewards should at least make a run at (and have a good shot of taking) the title. I started a random team just for fun using only those cards. It won Stone with a 144-18 record and is off to a 47-7 start in Iron. It won't be the most original way to take home the title, but would definitely be the quickest and most cost effective.

Maybe live missions would help this team win iron?

May I ask who your brother was on the forums? I'm terribly sorry for your loss, regardless of who it was. Heartfelt condolences to you and your family, and to his friends and loved ones. <3

As far as the team goes, I absolutely recommend doing the Live Missions, as others have said here. You have *EASILY* enough PP to finish those off, just use the Auction House efficiently, and buy the cheapest cards you can. Only rarely do you even get to Silver cards, and I don't think you would need to buy any Gold players to finish every single Live Mission. Once you've done that, you have a few players that can play far higher than Gold League, like Yogi Berra and Greg Maddux.

I spent $91 when I started this year's game, after a long absence from OOTP, and I didn't spend it all at once (the highest package I purchased was a $20) so I got far less than 175,000 points, and from the sound of it, your brother had played the account fairly heavily.

This is my second week in League play, and my career record is now 197-25. I won a Rookie Level Championship and promotion to Stone. Here is what my team consists of, so you can get to this point easily, as you have more resources than I did to start with:

SP: Greg Maddux (99)
SP: Steve Carlton (96)
SP: Randy Johnson (95)
SP: Bert Blyleven (94)
SP: Mike Mussina (93)
RP: Stephen Strasburg (98)
RP: Max Scherzer (99)
RP: Nick Anderson (95)
RP: Ted Lyons (94)
RP: Liam Hendriks (97)
RP: Joe Nathan (93)
CP: Aroldis Chapman (96)

C: Josh Gibson (100) (packed him!)
C: Yogi Berra (100)
1B: Jeff Bagwell (97)
2B: Robinson Cano (97)
2B: DJ LeMahieu (92)
3B: Eddie Mathews (91)
SS: Dick Bartell (93)
SS: Francisco Lindor (96)
LF: Carl Yastzremski (99)
LF: Ralph Kiner (96)
CF: Mike Trout (100, Live version)
CF: Duke Snider (96)
RF: Ichiro Suzuki (92)
RF: Christian Yelich (96)

All told, I have 36 DIamond or Perfect cards, and SO many of those rewards are given through the Live Missions alone, and I had even more Diamond and Gold cards that I've sold off, to where I'm at that point, and am sitting on 56K PP right now.

You can ABSOLUTELY win an Iron title with your resources. And if you have questions or need help with certain cards to finish your Live Missions, I'm 100% willing to help you get this done and honor your brother's memory without spending a dime. Feel free to DM me, or hit me up on DIscord, I'm often on there under this same name.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted you to see what you'll be able to do with the resources you have. DO NOT BUY ANY PACKS WITH YOUR PP!!!

He shouldn't really have any reason to sell any of those guys with ~170K PP. I would agree with you that he should shift away from Live players in his lineup as a general rule, but he has no reason to sell off assets to get a far more competitive squad. He certainly can once he's improved, but there's no reason to do it before he knows where he's at after 170K PP of investment.

OK. Look at historical players, got it. Also, to the player that asked, my brother was Acclaim99. This was his account.

Right now, I'm going to add pieces and upgrade what looks weak.

I thought I put his record, but guess not. Since I logged back in tho

Currently 53-47.

Looks like at least, 1sp, 2 rp, a C, 2B, my SD is hitting sub 200 (art fletcher, but he is a historical legend guy l),

Hell basically everyone is hitting around 200. Highest war is 2.7 (sherry Magee)

Lowest war starters are Alex bregman (. 2), albies (. 2), vlad Jr (. 3)

Oh, also I'm getting my brother's 2 favorite players once I find a good copy of them

So Bryce Harper will replace KB or Bregman, and Roy Halladay will replace Kevin gausmajn

You should probably do the Live Missions, as advised, so you aren't buying cards you'd get by doing them and wasting PP. That Yaz, Carlton, and Bagwell are all rewards on the way to the 100 Yogi Berra, the 99 Maddux, the Ichiro, etc...

Those missions are easily done with your level of PP and upgrading your pen will take care of itself. Look at my team above and I had way less than you do -- and I've upgraded today and added Jackie Robinson, 100 Mike Schmidt, 100 Roy Campanella, a 95 Rickey Henderson since I posted that.

That's why so many people here have advised you to do them.

Just for some context...With the team I mentioned before that I am experimenting with, I decided to do all the Live missions then go pack only and see what happens. I am now 850 packs in, and have hit one card that was good enough to go into my line up, and even that was borderline because of how I had to move the defense to fit him in. The Live mission cards are just so over powered right now for their price at lower levels.

Yes I just figured out yall meant by live missions lol. He left a lot of missions 85% and above, this laptop is just so slow to go back, get the cards, submit, etc. So it's going to take me a little time to finish submitting them all. Took me a day to figure out what live missions were.
Just going to keep updating as I go...

DeGrom/Strasburg/Verlander/Carlton

Patino/Bauer/Hand/Ayala/Erskine/Flaherty/Darvish/Hendriks

Realmuto/Bagwell/Cano/Rendon/Fletcher/Yastrzemski/Magee/Roberts/Bregman

Kendall/Bryant/Doerr/Seager

Going to focus on the live missions for RP and OFs next.

Try to get through the entire NL first, because that will give you the 99 Maddux, and a Mel Ott and a Ralph Kiner. The Kiner is pretty good for that level, and though I never used the Ott personally you could have one cover your RF spot and have the other DH.

I did those significant upgrades I spoke about in my last reply, to where Kiner only just now got bumped down a bit for me (I now only have him DH against LHP) and he has a .949 OPS for me with 35HR and 107RBI in 121 games (113 starts) and a 4.3 WAR. So he'll definitely still be at least serviceable in Iron.

Getting to the Maddux is the big one -- and you already have the Carlton you get from that line and could sell it, too. That would give you a decent chunk of PP back and a top-of-the-rotation starter essentially until this version ends.

You get a Perfect Yogi Berra when you complete the entire League, and that Berra can play all the way up to DIamond, so he and Maddux are the two Holy Grail's of the Live Missions -- but pretty much all of the rewards for each team are either a serviceable player or an easy sale for 1k/4k PP.

Best of luck, Sir, you should be in good shape to make a run for the title next week!

Now you see why I was so insistent. You have a helluva ballclub, and as you say, you have many other cards you could sell (or maybe even run Gold tournaments, Silver tournaments, whatever!)

You've definitely given yourself a great chance to get that title you want next week -- and most likely continue to compete the entire rest of the version!

Glad we could get you on the right path! I won my second straight World Series today, here's hoping you get your first next week! Best of luck!

Yeah. I compared my new lineup to my first post, and it's like night and day. I expect to dominate (whats above iron, silver?) league which starts tomorrow.

I didn't know if should use SPs in the pen, or find some high rated RP/CL but decided I couldn't bench the SPs I have. Should I add 1 more to the bullpen, or is that enough?

I also don't know anything about tournaments, last time my brother was on, I think tournaments were under the permanent coming soon status. I'll have to look at them tomorrow.
