Fictional league generating high percentage of players from a small city
Hello, I'm not sure if this is really a "bug" or just something I haven't configured properly. I'm running a fictional league and I'm finding each of the "major" countries (as in the ones you can select when setting draft pool origin settings) has one small city that's massively overrepresented in the league/draft pools. It's not a major issue and the Sunnyvale thing is a fun easter egg but I'm just wondering if there's a fix for this to keep the numbers down.
Canada - 43 of 83 players from Sunnyvale Trailer Park, NS (pop 10). USA - 730 total players with 230 players from Death Valley Junction, CA (pop 10). Dominican Rep. - over half from Payita, MAR (pop 500). Mexico - most players from Chalchihiutan, CHI, (pop 1138). Japan - about half from Utashinai, HOK (pop 5162). Venezuela - 51 of the 75 players from Tucacas, FAL (pop 4500). Cuba - Over half from San Diego de los Banos, PIN (pop 1643). Puerto Rico - 21 of 22 players from Las Marias, MAY (pop 1031). This seems to only be happening for the main "selected" nations from the draft pool settings. I have 10% of the draft pools set to random origin and those countries seem fine. I have about 15-25 players from places like Korea, Aruba, Australia, the Netherlands, Columbia, etc. and they're pretty much exactly proportional to population with a handful from major cities and the rest from a variety. For example, Australia has 18 players with 5 from Sydney, 3 from Melbourne, and 10 more players from other cities with no other duplicates. Not a major issue but just wondering if there's a fix for this. The only real cause I can think of is that I have a team in LA and two teams in Nova Scotia, so it seems to be trying to generate players from near those teams but I still don't know why it's choosing the 10 pop cities of Death Valley Junction, CA and Sunnyvale Trailer Park, NS instead of the dozens of other cities close to those teams. I didn't touch the cities/nations in the database at all when creating the league, and on the database screen I see 244 nations, 3372 states, and 91021 cities (and I see tons of cities in each nation from the explore world screens). Only thing I can think of off-hand is that there's something wrong with the coordinates in the DB, such that those are the only towns that show up "close" to the teams.
Otherwise would have to know a little more about the setup, where you have feeders on or off, and if there is anything funky going on with the schools DB. You can always go to the database tab and reimport the world db/schools db, and see if that helps anything going forward. |

I'll try reimporting the world/schools db and see if that helps, our next draft pool will be created soon so that will be a test case. Thanks for the ideas, hopefully reimporting the db works. Last edited by OldGregg; 10-21-2020 at 11:16 AM. |

Remimporting the world and schools db has fixed the issue for every country except the USA. With the new draft pool generated it seems like all the other countries now have a realistic distribution of cities, but the USA is still mostly coming from one city.
Instead of Death Valley Junction it's now Lookeba, OK where about half of the newly generated American players came from. Reimporting the database also removed my custom settings on player origin (I now only see USA when setting default player origin/draft pool origin specifics). That's not really an issue since variety is fun in a fictional league but thought I'd mention in case it gave a clue. I still see the flags in this setting ![]() But when I go to check distribution they're gone. I would guess based on the USA number not being 80% that DR/CAN/JPN/MEX etc are still set to generate some percentage of players outside of the random nationality but not 100% sure. Either way it doesn't seem to have real gameplay impact since the actual player quality is fine, was just hoping to fix this for flavour text reasons.
