Season 15 (2034) General Discussion Thread

I spent last week rebuilding my team from a live mission SE "cookie cutter" into a contact/gap/speed/defense "Whiteyball" special. I am anxious to see how it plays with a full season in my newly-constructed canyon err... ballpark. The pitching staff still has all of the live SE cards so the job is only half finished, but $25 will only carry you so far - even with a points sale. I hope the pitching will be good enough to support the new strategy and finally get me to diamond level where I can... uh... oh yeah, get relegated.

So far so good for the Port Dawgs in their 3rd go around in Gold. Off to a 10-5 start and pretty pleased other than Nolan 100 getting his shorts starched 3 out of his 4 starts

I've also retooled a bit with Pesky and Gordon up the middle and Medwick holding down the DH duties

You just swept a three-game series with me, so that should help.

My team got promoted to the Diamond League for the first time and is holding its own so far. Part of me would like to get relegated back to Gold one more time since I don’t think my team is quite ready to consistently compete at that level.

I’d like to get a RH bat with solid defense for my outfield (probably out in RF) and a LH bat who can be a reasonable backup for both SS and 3B (that one is a tough ask). I’m continuing to grind the tournaments to see if I can get lucky on the pitching side and/or get some good AH material to build up my bank.

Why it's all pointless and the pain is ultimately for nothing...

It's been all downhill since

I'm barely floating above .500 now and somehow I'm still only 1/2 game out...go figure

I've had to really shake my lineup around to try to jump start it. My hitters are anemic this year But looking around this league it looks like a lot of big hitters numbers are way down from their norms...not just me...you seeing that? Although looks like you've caught your 2nd wind lol

Dwight Evans 95 is pretty solid in right and is a good on base guy with nice gap power. Good D with a gun in right as well

The NC West of D.370 is kinda murder. We're leading right now at 40-24; second place is a half game back, third place is one game back. Fourth place is St. Paul at 3 games under .500 and they have 3 lower level championships (including a Gold) and the 5th most all-time wins in the league, plus a starting rotation including perfect Clemans and Spahn. I feel bad for the last place Peaches, they don't even have a bad roster.

Evans can also be trained to a 97 Overall in center field, for those who aren't using Ichiro there or want some flexibility.

Offensively in Diamond Dewey hovers around a .700 OPS in my experience scouting him. (He's got sentimental value for me as I grew up in Boston in the 80s and actually got an autograph from him in the player's lot after a game in 1983, which sent my 9-year-old self into a state of euphoria.)

Probably one of my favorite Sox of all time. Even though they never won during that time span, I loved watching the 70's and 80's teams. #24 was always one of my faves (And I don't mean Manny) lol

Good to know about the 97 in CF. Since my season is hovering around .500 after a fast start, I may flip Ichiro and Dewey to train him up to that 97

The Mets are playing .330 ball and are definitely getting relegated, but Kevin McReynolds hit for a natural cycle for 5k, so that's nice to have in the bank as I am eyeing improvements. I need... everything.

Overall, the new look Colonels are doing well at 38-29, good enough for the top wild card spot and only 3.5 games behind the division leader. However, the details are a bit unsettling.

We are 24-11 at home and 14-18 on the road, proving that I have indeed aligned my roster to take advantage of my ballpark. We lead the conference in batting average (.301) and hits, and we're 2nd in OPS (.791) and stolen bases. But we are only 4th in runs scored because we are last in home runs, and that lack of power is leading to the mediocre road record.

The defense is 2nd in ZR but the pitching is not able to keep the ball where the fielders can reach it on the road, allowing 45 HRs in 32 games away from cavernous Eclipse Park. Overall, we are walking less than our opponents and striking out more often, which is not a good combination.

Maybe I pushed the offense too far to the Whiteyball side. I focused hard on increasing contact, gap, speed, and fielder range. In order to afford the best at those skills, I sacrificed eye and AvK in several cases. A better (read: more expensive) grade of hitter might be able to correct that K/BB ratio in my favor while still winning the CON/RNG battle.

Or maybe the sample size is still too small to read correctly and those road numbers will look better by the end of the week. Time will tell on that, but either way I probably need to start upgrading my pitching (currently the usual array of SE cards) in order to decrease opponent HRs on the road and increase the K/BB ratio. They can't hit the ball out of the park if they don't hit it at all.

The bottom line is that the current winning percentage of .567 would be the best season of my seven in gold level. So I am pretty happy with the results of my transition so far. I patted Whitey on the back, but I am not ready to give him a contract extension.

My 7th season in diamond and finally I've been placed in the weakest division of the league. I'm in 1st, but have the worst record of the division leaders. That's better than being in 3rd or 4th (!) with a better record than a division leader.

My 3 clubs dont perform well this week. I just hit a Degrom for my Angels, only pack team, i'm not sure if I keep it or sell Bert Blyleven at 35K for more packs.

I countered your 95 Mantle with a 96 Elston Howard to platoon with Berra. Take that!
