Minor League Contracts

In spring training, I signed a couple of guys to minor league deals that would become guaranteed major league deals if they made the active roster before day 30 of the season. I had no intention of promoting them so the dollar value didn't matter much. None of them have spent a day in the majors, or on my 40 man roster, and yet all of the contracts are now guaranteed and on my payroll. How did I screw this up??

Maybe they played in a spring training game and that counted?

Same thing happened to me. I signed a guy to this type of contract, and two months later he was still in my organization. I released him shortly afterward, and then found out I was fully on the hook for his "major league" salary, even though I didn't even get the typical warning ("releasing this player will add $xxx to your player expenses") when I released him.

I think these contracts got screwed up in this version, and would recommend avoiding them. You're effectively signing a player to a minor league contract with a bonus.

Technically these contracts never worked correctly. Before they 100% become free agents. Should have at least had some chance to stay with a minor league contract. Just like player options aren't 100% the player always leaves. Its really high but every know and then they don't opt out.

But I do remember seeing a thread about this a couple patches ago someone else was complaining of the same thing. It just automatically become a major league contract instead of the player opting for free agency.
