400 Homers for Cobb:

The Cal Poly Mustangs defeated the Drake Bulldogs 4-1 yesterday in a game that featured Ty Cobb's 400th career home run.

In the clubhouse, the Mustangs left fielder spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?"

On his historic day, Cobb banged out 2 hits in 4 at-bats and scored 2 runs with 4 RBI.

Lifetime Cobb is hitting .385 with 286 doubles, 17 triples, 400 home runs, 1000 RBIs and 954 runs scored. He has appeared in 1072 games to date and delivered 1580 hits.

LSU had quite a run the first seven year. The only program to make the playoffs each year. 4 SEC titles included in that run. Looks like signing Stan is a sign they are ready to get back in the thick of things.

Edmonds Racks up 4 HR Against Hoosiers:

Fans at Bart Kaufman Field won't soon forget the raw display of power put on by Illinois Fighting Illini center fielder Jim Edmonds today. Edmonds smashed 4 home runs in Illinois's 8-5 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers.

"To be honest with you, I have never even thought about hitting this many home runs in a game," Edmonds said to reporters after the game. "Only legends hit this many home runs in a game and I ain't no legend."

In his history-making performance, Edmonds victimized Indiana hurlers for 4 hits in 5 at-bats with 4 runs scored and 6 RBIs.

"What he did was unbelievable," said Indiana manager Mike Gradilla. "My guys gave it their best, but he hit some fine pitches. He was like -- he was in automatic home run mode today. He just had that great swing. It didn't matter what we threw him. It was gone."

Jim Edmonds struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Rick Ankiel in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Rick Ankiel in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Marcus Baerwolf in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Tyler Glasnow in the 9th.

In 16 games this season Edmonds has batted at a .386 pace with 27 hits and 12 home runs.

Wilson Raps 400th Roundtripper: It was a historic day for Sacramento State's fine right fielder John Wilson. He slammed home run number 400 in the Hornets 9-7 loss to the Northern Iowa Panthers at John Smith Field.

He told reporters after the game that he was disappointed in losing the game. "It's great to get that many homers, but I don't play for homers -- I play to win. That's the name of the game."

In his milestone-making game Wilson went 1 for 4, scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in. That home run put him in a select group of ballplayers.

Wilson has a lifetime .285 batting average and .335 on-base percentage in his 956-game career with 1091 hits and 400 home runs.

Cobb Hits in 30 Straight Games:

Ty Cobb ran his hitting streak to 30 straight games today at FAU Baseball Stadium, when he collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats. The feat came, however, as the Cal Poly Mustangs dropped the game, 7-2, to the Florida Atlantic Owls.

"Hey, the streak is great -- I hope it never ends," Cobb said later. "But I'm not happy to lose the game."
Ty Cobb flied out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Grant Bowler in the 9th.

So far this season Cobb has hit .474 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 20 times.me runs.

Florida Atlantic Halts Cobb's Hitting Steak:

Cal Poly triumphed over Florida Atlantic today, but that was only one of the headlines from the game -- Mustangs left fielder Ty Cobb failed to get a hit in the 10-4 win, bringing his 30-game hitting streak to an abrupt end.

"I carried the club a few times over the past couple weeks, but today they carried me," he told reporters in his postgame remarks. "No matter what else happens, it is always good to win a ballgame."

For the season Cobb has hit .457 with 9 home runs and 24 RBIs. He has played in 21 games and scored 21 times.

#300 for Pena:

Indiana's 4-2 victory over East Carolina was highlighted by Carlos Pena's 300th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Pena said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Hoosiers first baseman collected 2 hits in his historic game, scored 2 runs, and had 2 runs batted in.

Lifetime Pena is batting .223 with 124 doubles, 26 triples, 300 home runs and 676 RBIs in 1142 games.

Love Field at Pat Patterson Park, but he expressed mixed emotions about the streak after watching the Bulldogs drop the game, 14-9.

USC's Soto Hammers #300:

It's official. Juan Soto of the USC Trojans hit his 300th home run tonight.

The USC Trojans took on the Creighton Blue Jays and downed them 10-5, but the big story of the night was the milestone home run for Soto. He rounded the bases with a smile and politely stepped on home plate and walked back to the dugout.

"300 is a big number, and I am thankful for the ability to get to this milestone. But it's all about the team today, my accomplishments are just one piece to the Trojans puzzle."

The Trojans left fielder went 2-for-4 with 2 home runs and 6 runs batted in as the USC Trojans topped the Creighton Blue Jays.

All-time Soto has played in 967 games, batted .288 with 301 home runs and 991 base hits.

Wright Belts Number 300:

A big sigh of relief erupted from David Wright after he hit his 300th career homer. The Georgia Tech third baseman said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Wright. He got his name in the league record books with 2 hits, 3 RBI, scored 3 runs and his team, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets beat the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks 15-2.

Wright knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

In his career Wright has hit .297 with 1303 hits, 301 home runs, 758 RBIs and scored 767 runs.

Homer #300 for Montana's Brunansky:

On his milestone day Brunansky had 1 hit in 3 at-bats with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

His lifetime stats show that Brunansky has hit .262 and connected for 300 home runs.
