Zack (note spelling) Monroe was in the Cinci Reds spring camp in 1961 until approximately April 2. However, using newspapers.com and genealogybank.com, I could not find any photos of him in a Reds' uniform.

Joe E. Brown and Harry Ruby!

The 1935 Hollywood Stars provided something special in the way of entertainment for their closing games of the season. For one thing, they played a closing day double header against the Mission Reds. The second game had some features that would not be permitted today. Songwriter Harry Ruby who left his pro baseball aspirations behind to write songs for the Marx Brothers, among others, suited up for the Stars and played second base. Comic actor Joe E. Brown was permitted to umpire and then entered the game as pitcher for the opposing Mission Reds. He struck out Ruby, who was the only batter he faced. Both players are listed in baseball-reference:

This photo of Larry Abbott comes from the Newport News Daily Press of May 13, 1968. It shows him in the uniform of the Peninsula Grays.

Ernie Clifford

Ernie Clifford was a pitcher with the St. Louis Browns' Class D Thomasville affiliate in 1952. He died recently on December 21 in Bethesda, Maryland. I had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with him on two occasions earlier this year, and he was a gracious gentleman. I was saddened to learn of his passing.

The photo is an obit photo posted on the funeral home website.

Yep, Shollenberger was actually on the Reds' spring roster in 1963. The photo of him in a Reds' uniform appeared on the www.sportslot.com website back in 2011.

The photo of Al Crawford is another one which came from the www.sportslot.com website in 2011.

Al Crawford was on the Reds' spring roster every year for four years in a row, 1969-1972. Whenever I come across a player who had been on a spring roster for four or five years, and not made the major leagues, it makes me wonder what was in the GM's mind to keep using a roster slot for the guy over and over like that, and yet not give him a shot at playing in the bigs. It had to be very frustrating for the player.

Baseball-reference.com doesn't show any minor league record for Morton in 1966. His Sporting News card indicates that he was with the parent Atlanta Braves for much of the season, and didn't get optioned to Kinston until Aug. 20. I'd guess that he either didn't get into any games or got into too few to show up in Baseball-reference for that year.

He had a 10-9 record in 24 appearances for Kinston in 1967, but I couldn't find any photos for him that year.

P.S. But did find a photo of Morton with the West Palm Beach Braves of the Florida State League in 1965. At that time, he was still an outfielder, and had not yet converted to becoming a pitcher. The photo is from the Palm Beach Post of April 11, 1965.

This photo of Tim White comes from the Tampa Times of April 17, 1969. He seems to be wearing a Reds' cap, though he was with the Tampa Tarpons at the time.

This photo of Nardi Contreras is from the Tampa Tribune of February 21, 1970. Contreras was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Reds that spring.
