Maybe the best solution here is to find a way to zip your league up and let us play it out to see what your describing. That may give us some insight as to what's going on. |

Is the 67% figure you are using based on perception or are you keeping track? If it's just based on perception you should consider writing down each time this happens and the situation it happens in along with any other league information so that someone else can test this in the same situation and see if they come up with the same percentages you are getting. Does it happen in other leagues or is this the only league you have going? If it's the only league you are playing I'd set up another league and test it that way. If it still happens maybe save your current league folder in a safe place and then unlicense, uninstall, and reinstall the game and see if that fixes it. Although I don't think this would make much difference it is relativly easy to do and would cover one more of the bases in trying to figure out why this is happening to you. |

I am not a fan of the saying 'in real life'. But (this is without any stat checking) it seems to me that terrible runners do not get picked off as much as good runners. Poor runners take shorter leads, and don't get caught leaning towards the next bag. Good runners who are apt to steall get picked off more, because they take big leads and try to time a pitch, that is why they are good runners. Just in my opinion. I am sure there is a stat out there that someone can bring out to prove me completly wrong.

Went to play it last night, and noticed some corruption issues...players on several teams have a square and a period for a name, and since I'm in Manager Mode, I can't go into those teams to cut the players and delete them.
Dunno what could have caused that, but we did have a brief power outage in the middle of a session a couple weeks ago, so that maybe the cause, I dunno. I've deleted that league and started a new one (I only have one going at any given time). If I see the pickoff issue crop up again, I'll be sure to take notes and post to this thread exactly what's happening, when, and what the settings are. jax - from a 'real life' perspective, you're absolutely right. you takes your risks, and sometimes you get caught. But at the same token, *good* baserunners also generally measure a pitcher's reaction to each move. You don't take your biggest lead the second you get on base. Instead, you take a few steps, time the throw over, maybe increase your lead the next time, and so forth until you've got a lead that you can get back in time with. Most pickoffs that I've seen in real life tend to happen when either the pitcher's pickoff move is SO good that it catches the runner totally flatfooted, or if the runner mistimes the start of the pitch and jumps the gun a bit early. The former example would be modeled in the game by the pitcher's "hold runner" rating. A "C" hold runner rating should seldom, if ever, trump an "A" base stealing rating. Also, if I were getting picked off on at-bats where I clicked 'Steal 2nd,' that would make more sense, but to get picked off that way when I'm not even sending the guy in motion is galling, and it's made more so by the frequency with which I saw it happening. |

I agree with you about not hitting steal second and getting picked off. Maybe there should be a choice to have your runner stay close.
As for playing manager mode and not being able to delete the players. Old Man made a great utility that can turn manager mode off and allow you to delete players and change homefields and other comsemetic things you would like to do while in manager mode. Go to the mod section. It is stikyed at the top.

Created a new league (I think I mentioned that).
16 teams, drafted with real players, randomized cities. The problem is...when I go to the Manager Screen, I get the following error: OOTP5 caused an invalid page fault in module OOTP5.EXE at 0187:007b5712. Registers: EAX=00000000 CS=0187 EIP=007b5712 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=00000000 SS=018f ESP=00e4f454 EBP=00e4f4dc ECX=00000000 DS=018f ESI=00e4f450 FS=6d47 EDX=00f76bf0 ES=018f EDI=00e4e0aa GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 8b 00 89 42 18 8b 4d a8 8b 51 18 83 7a 5c 00 75 Stack dump: 00e4fcd8 817e08e8 00e4f450 00e4f490 00e4f490 00f75140 780014a5 00000009 78001469 00e4e0aa ffffffff 780013d0 00f76bf0 ffffffff baadaf4e 00e64c00 Not good.

Do other leagues work ok? You might try just creating a new one and see if it works.

jax - the default league is still there, and virgin to boot. the league that got corrupted was the league I created originally where I was having the pickoff issues. That one I deleted after I noticed the corruption.
Steve - the league itself still worked fine, if you're referring to the corruption. It just had placeholder players that I couldn't manually delete. The league that just had that error message was the new league I created with a 16 team league, random cities, real players, and a player draft. |

I am also a beta-tester for OOTP5, and test the patches in the same folder where I have my online league files. The online league Commissioner is using 5.12, I am using 5.13. Throughout the end of last season, 5.12/5.13 was not an issue. I ftp'ed my lineup changes to his server, and his import worked fine. When he finished last season, and we progressed to this season's draft, I found I could not sign any free agents, or draft any players in the ammy draft. My 5.13 game kept asking for a password, and my password did not work. In an exchange of emails with the online league Commissioner, we discovered the 5.12/5.13 issue. As soon as I reverted back to the 5.12 version, problem solved. It appears there may be some conflicts between 5.12 and 5.13, but this is the only one I know about. Hope this helps. |

Promoting A Day-to-Day Injured Player Bug
Hello all -
Thanks for the usual attention to a fine product, but as often happens when fixing one bug, a new one crops up. I am not not able to promote players from the minors with "day to day" injuries to the majors. Recently one of my starting pitchers was injured so i sent him to the D.L. and tried to call up the one huy at AAA who was best qualified to replace him in the rotation, but he was "orange" at listed at 90% for six weeks and could not be promoted. It seems that the bug fix doesn't differentiate between: 1) Promoting and demoting a player, and 2) "red" injuries versus "orange" injuries. It was too bad, because 90% of my top guy at AAA was a much better choice than anyone on the waiver wire - or 100% of my #2 pitcher at AAA. Cheers - Paul BTTF - KC Royals |
