Player out of position problem

This isn't what you think by reading the title.

I was considering trying to teach a player a position on the ML level for my online league. I ran a test to see if such a thing could ruin his hitting ratings, and OOTP wouldn't sim the games that involved the player's team after the change.

This is with the 5.13 patch. I tried this four times...once, I was able to get a week worth of games, before I just couldn't get past one game. The other tests, I just can't get past the games. This is bad news, because owners who want to play players out of position are screwed (I let it happen, because defense affects teams in the game).

Any advice on what I can do?

-John

John,

I too like to do this so I just went into a league that I had (solo though) and put a player into a position he didn't have a rating for saved the lineup and simmed two days. It worked w/o a problem and he was in the lineup in the position I set him at.

Did you check the lineups of all of the teams and make sure:

-There are no positions listed twice.
-There are no players in the lineup w/o a position.
-There are no injured pitchers scheduled to start a game that day.

Also, could you give me a few more details about the league.

Found it. One player was in the lineup twice (same position) vs LHP.

I'll give this a try now. Thanks for making me aware of this, Steve.

I do have one quick question...maybe you can answer my question since I'm running the test anyway.

In your experience, have you seen players lose hitting ability while trying to learn a position, especially if its on the big league level? Your input is appreciated.

Not that I noticed, but not 100% certain.

I haven't noticed any dropoff in hitting either - other than random drops that is.

I've tried getting my players to learn new positions, and not once have I seen a dropoff in talents
I did see in one league that his stars dropped from 2.5 stars to 1 star and the only change was him going from LF to RF...and he doesn't even have a worse range in RF than he did in LF
I think that ones a fluke, because all his batting and talent ratings are the same as they were before

on a side note...I just got pat burrell to learn 2B by playing him there for 2 weeks
