This is the first year with legitimate Hall of Fame candidates. We'll look through each career and determine which ones will be memorialized. I do have a WAR target based on real-life percentages of each position and long-term tests I've run with the league, but those may not work until the league is a little more mature.

My philosophy is basically WAR/WPA-based. In the real-life MLB, approximately 1.5 to 2% of players are elected into the HOF, so that's what I'm aiming for here. That changes based on position - it's closer to 2% for RF and below 1% for relievers. I've found that OOTP will far over represent relievers in the HOF - more will be elected in 20 years than in the entirety of MLB history.

The targets I'm looking for in terms of career WAR are about 62 for SP, 28-30 for RP, 35 for C, and then somewhere around 40 for all other position players. This all depends on how well they compare to their contemporaries. Overall the idea is that the statistically best 1.5-2% of players at each position are elected into the HOF.

Players are eligible immediately upon retirement and only have one voter - me.

I am trying to go into the editor to change the players who retire as Free Agents and put them in the uniform of the team they will be representing in the Hall of Fame. Hopefully it doesn't mess anything up.



Celio Cabedo, RHP - He retires as the second best pitcher in Major League history, surpassed only by his contemporary J.P. Avila. The league began right in his peak years which he maintained until an injury setback with a torn labrum ended his career. He was an MVP, 7-time Pitcher of the Year, 8-time All-Star, and 2-time World Series Champion.

Career MLB Stats: 272 G, 424 BB, 1364 K, 1.99 FIP, 69 FIP-, 66.5 WAR

Steve Gardiner, LHP - Gardiner falls just below the HOF level. His 44.6 WAR ranks currently as 11th all-time, amassed over a 9-year career with the Tigers, Brewers, and Reds. He made 5 All-Star teams.

Career MLB Stats: 274 G, 585 BB, 1122 K, 2.45 FIP, 86 FIP-, 44.6 WAR

Luis Magallanes, RHP - Magallanes lost out on some of his prime years since the league was not yet formed and then faded too quickly in his 30s. He won the very first NL Pitcher of the Year Award, was a 4-time All-Star, a World Champion, and won a Gold Glove in 1901.

Bobby Rogers, RHP - Rogers had a career year in 1902 and a good 8-year career as a number 1 or 2 starter, but falls outside of the Hall of Fame.

Josh Elicerio, 3B - Early in his career, Elicerio was the leader in hits and triples. His contact, gap power, and speed combined as a lethal offensive weapon - culminating in the still MLB record 60 triples in 1900. He made 2 All-Star games and was a 3-time Silver Slugger. Blue Jays fans no doubt still remember his 1903 AL Division MVP, even though the team still lost the series to the White Sox.

Dave Wilson, LF - He was an All-Star in 1901 and a 2-time silver slugger, spending time with the Padres and Orioles. His career included 6 walk-off hits.

Dave Sweet signed with the Dbacks on a similar 2-year contract.


Kinnon Duford joined his third Midwest team - after spending time with the Cubs and Brewers, he signed a 2-year contract with a 135 game vesting option in the 2nd year with the Tigers.

Fresh off his Hall of Fame induction, Cabedo just couldn't stay away from the game. He was hired by the New York Mets as a pitching coach with a 1-year contract.

The top Free Agent this year is Rob Mosher - He plays a passable CF but his real value is in his offense. Only 28 years old, he has already won 7 Silver Slugger awards.


J.P. Avila out of a Pirates uniform? Say it ain't so! He's 37 and looking for a contract to take him the rest of the way for his career.

After all those college hitters got taken in the last draft, there were a bunch of teams that were quite low (16 players)

Top Prospects:
Andrejs Silamikelis - Still fragile, but was able to finish the season with just a couple minor injuries and made the All-Star team.

Joe Hubbard - Covered him last year, but he did have his best season in 1909. That changeup is still a lost cause, but 5.2 WAR and leading the league with 5.6 K/9 is nothing to sneeze at. He also made the All-Star team for the first time.

Draftees:
Aiden Shelton - The top high school draftee in 1904 moved quickly through the minors and made his debut in the major leagues at 20 years old. He has averaged 5-6 WAR in his age 21-23 seasons and is looking to make a push into the game's elite next season.

Jonathan Kinnunen - The top college draftee in 1904 has also been performing well in the Major Leagues. He's a 2-time All-Star and narrowly finished second in the 1909 Pitcher of the Year to Zach Jensen.

Award Winners:
Dave Hansen - These Rookies of the Year have not panned out very well. Hansen gained half of his career value in his rookie season. He went from All-Star level to average to replacement to Indy League over just a few seasons. He retired at the end of the 1909 season with a fractured hand, despite playing quite well in Indy ball.

Other:
Deshawn Wetherspoon - He failed to sign after the draft a full 4 times, which is technically illegal, but whatever. He finally signed with the Devil Rays in 1906, was named to top prospect lists in 1908 and 1909 and was traded to the Brewers. He was their starting LF this year but performed near replacement level.

Chad Parise - He pitched a no-hitter for the Braves in 1904. He has been an average pitcher throughout his career, sticking with the Braves for another year, then moving to the Orioles and the Twins. Last year he pitched for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League and put up a respectable 3.2 WAR.

Ethan McMullen - He had the longest hit streak in the universe at the time at 39 games for the Kansas Jayhawks. He was drafted in 1905 by the Twins but failed to sign and then by the Rangers in 1906 at which point he did sign. He worked his way through the minors and was brought up to the major leagues at the end of the season in 1909, playing 5 games.

Rickey McKinney - While McMullen was stopping at 39 games, McKinney was pushing right past him to a 43 game hitting streak. He has not cracked a Major League roster yet but is currently in AAA, looking to make the leap next year.

Ernesto Morales - Yet another somewhat average pitcher with a no-hit performance. In fact, Morales was closer to replacement level for his career and retired at the end of the 1909 season.

Herbert Bing - He was the top unsigned draftee in 1909 and was sent to Pennsylvania for a good Ivy League education. He pitched pretty well in college and was drafted in the first round by the Angels - the original team that drafted him. He has been working his way through their minor league system, reaching AAA in 1909.
