Nielsoncp's Ballpark Concepts and 3D Models

Since this project has grown quite a bit since I posted my original Portland post, I wanted to reorganize it into a more structured set-up that would make it easier to find the stadiums.

Thread Updates:

3/25/19:
Below you’ll find my updated list of stadiums created so far by country. In the individual posts there are two zip files (for everything before Red Deer.) The original zip file has 2d crowds and a three-part background, the new zip file has 3d crowds, a single background, and day/night settings.

6/17/19
All of these stadiums can be modded relatively easily. There are GIMP templates for a number of the graphics in the individual zip files - if you want a step by step guide to changing out images, you can find that here.

7/13/19
All US, SF Giants 58 Concepts, and the 10 largest Canadian cities now have logos on the field for teams that can be replaced using the above process.

8/16/19
I have built the different concept libraries into specific folders that you can find below.

If you want to download all of these stadiums at one time, you can click on this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...oP?usp=sharing and find the google drive folder that I keep all of the finished zip files in. You can then download the whole lot by clicking on the carrot next to the folder name, and then select download at the bottom of the list. The whole collection will be about 8gb. The folders below will range from 80 mb to 4-5 gb.

Recommendations Form

(EDIT 4/19 - for now, I'm not going to pay as much attention to the form.)

Also, I know there were a few posters that had ideas in the previous thread for potential stadiums. To help organize that process I put together a google form you can fill out if you have an idea for a stadium that you’d like to see in the game.

You can find the form here and the results and queue here – and if other stadium builders want to hop in on the fun, feel free to use this as a resource.

Putting your idea into the form won’t guarantee that it will get made, but I will take a look and see if I can do anything with it.

Sacramento, CA, USA - Raley Field

Sacramento has been one of the cities I've wanted to do for a while, so it was fun to finally get around to it. As usual, I took the field outline and added in a few features - unfortunately I couldn't find a way to put the kids area behind the right field bleachers that wouldn't take a couple hours to put together.

The park plays very pitcher friendly - the climate added a good bit to that when I put it into the Park Factors calculator, but in the Pacific Coast League it is one of the more pitcher friendly parks.

Great work here! Love the organization and the queue and the request form.

Just so you know, I already have an Edmonton Ballpark version that I made. It is in my post.

I also did raley field as well. I love seeing the different versions though

nice to see another taking up this great hobby

Calgary, AB - Foothills Stadium

Isedelyod gave me a few ideas in the form, one of which had a video link in it - you can find the story here: https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml...all-hardships/. Pretty much baseball isn't surviving in Calgary because the summer is too cold and short and people don't want to sit outside. As a child of Milwaukee County Stadium, I understand. Hence - A retractable roof! (I'd really recommend it - it makes baseball much more enjoyable in April.)

The stadium plays very hitter friendly - practically Coors Field level friendly - so get your groundballers and/or strike out artists ready.

Oklahoma City, OK - Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark

This is from the previous thread, and I took a first run at it a couple of weeks ago and finally figured it out today. It's a pretty brick intensive complex (as the name indicates), so I had to use a few different brick textures to show the differences between the buildings in the complex.

The park plays relatively pitcher friendly in real life, so I made those adjustments in the park factors. It plays a bit friendlier to lefties thanks to the shorter porch in right.

Thanks for the encouragement! I think I'll push Edmonton a bit further down the queue for now then and work on some other files in the pipeline.

Also, thanks for the tutorials. If I'm stuck on a particular problem I often pull them up to take a quick look - you've gotten me out of a few jams so far.

St. John's, NL - St. Patrick's Field

Isedelyod posted about St. Patrick's field using the form, and after taking a look at it there were a couple of intriguing features. First, it was built by American GIs during World War II and has been in use ever since - apparently it's the largest field in Newfoundland. Second, the stadium has a lot of space around it - EXCEPT along the third base line. So, I got a bit creative, turned that into open space like there is in most outfields, and put seats around the rest of the field.

I used the park factors from eriqjaffe's park generator, and as you can see, true to form it's pitcher friendly and a home run desert. Feel free to adjust accordingly.

Also, this project has convinced me that all Canadian parks in real life should be indoors - take note Montreal.

Buffalo, NY - Sahlen Field

Apparently Buffalo was a contender for expansion teams in the 1990s, and to fit that possibility, they built their park to be expanded to over 35,000 fans pretty easily with the addition of a third deck - which made it easy to expand it to an MLB stadium. One of the other cool things about the stadium is the short area in left field - it's right next to a freeway, so I had to make a few adjustments in the model. I also experimented with a new dugout style in this model and the next one - let me know what you think.

Overall the park plays pretty neutral, with a slight preference for righty contact and lefty power.

Norfolk, VA - Harbor Park

Virginia Beach/Norfolk/Newport News were also in the running for multiple teams, including the relocating Nationals in 2004. Thanks to the great Stadium Pages site, I ran across this concept for a new stadium:

and combined it with the current field. It was a pretty straightforward project and one of the quicker ones to build.

The park is very pitcher friendly in real life - kind of like an east coast ATT/PacBell/SBC/Oracle? Park. I guess that's the advantage of that heavy sea air.

Charlottetown, PEI - Memorial Field

Isedelyod also sent me a suggestion for a nice public park on the edge of Victoria Forest in Charlottetown, PEI. I tried to preserve the "forest" in right field, and incorporate a couple of memorials that are a part of the actual field.

The park, like all open air canadian parks, plays pretty pitcher friendly. Feel free to get all the fly ball pitchers your heart desires if you're going to play in this field.

Richmond, VA - Shockoe Bottom Field

One of the reasons we all love OOTP is it lets us do things that will never happen in real life - things like making the playoffs as the Mariners or spending more than $20 million a year on player as the Rays, or creating a stable franchise in Miami. It turns out Sketchup has similar powers, because unlike the mayor of Richmond, I have managed to create a ballpark in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood of Richmond.

The park is based off of a couple of concepts created when they first started pushing for the field in Richmond, including the strange cut out in the middle of the outfield. The field is relatively hitter friendly, especially for lefties, but the big wall in left field will do long term damage to your righty power hitters.

Mississauga, ON - Meadowvale Sports Park

A couple of years ago I created a Canadian league in OOTP and, true to form, did a good bit of research before I created it. In the process I found out about cities I had no idea about - like Mississauga, which, near as I can tell, is the Philadelphia of Canada, ie the smaller, yet pretty significant city in the shadow of the overwhelming metropolis of the country. (You know its true Philly.) Their independent league team apparently played at Meadowvale Sports Park, so I turned it into a major league stadium using the stands from a former park close to the border, Tiger Stadium.

The park plays relatively pitcher friendly, but because it's smaller has a higher than average home run rate.

Brampton, ON - Dave Dash Memorial Field

One of the cool things about doing a project like this is the little things you learn along the way. Brampton, ON hosts its major tournaments at Dave Dash Memorial Field, which is named for a man who spent 40 years volunteering with their baseball association. It kind of makes me wish we had gone down a different path with our names - identifying the unnamed people that serve a community/team and naming our stadiums after them. If only Miller wasn't paying $2 million a year for the privilege....

Dave Dash Memorial Park, in OOTP world, plays pretty neutral for lefties and pitcher friendly with righties.

Hamilton, ON - Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium

Off we go to Hamilton, which, like Brampton, named its main baseball field after a local hero. Bernie Arbor was a local police officer and director of the local baseball organization from 1948 until his untimely death in 1967. When Hamilton renovated its main stadium to make it football only, the city named its new field after him - and now it, too, can host professional baseball. I added in a few fun features (including a beer garden in center field - my Milwaukee is showing) and tried to keep some of the park feel.

The stadium is pretty righty friendly, especially with the short home run porch in right field.

Added bonus - between Silvam's work and this collection, we now have stadiums for the ten largest cities/villes in Canada!

Just want to say, man, that you've done a spectacular job with these stadiums. I'm probably gonna use them for the new fictional league I'm planning.

Keep up the great work!

Is that Manny on the big screen? Looks like he’s in the process of getting thrown out at first while taking off his batting gloves and heading for the dugout.

London, ON - Labatt Memorial Park

Labatt Memorial Park is, based on how you measure it, the oldest baseball stadium in the world (there's a baseball diamond in Massachussets that has it on a technicality (read the wikipedia article here for more on the drama) and as such I wanted to give it an old park vibe. I took a lot of ideas from Forbes Field, including the stands structure and the brick outfield wall, made a hand operated scoreboard (more on that in a second) and added a videoboard in right field. My thought was that if the park had been used since the 1870s as a major league stadium it probably would have had a similar life to Fenway and Wrigley, so hopefully it's a nice mix of old and new.

Also - one of the fun things about this stadium is the (barely visible) hand operated scoreboard in Right Center. Below is a picture:

All of the numbers, names, etc. are painted textures, so you should be able to change them by overwriting the .png files in the texture folder.

The park plays pretty neutral, with a slight advantage to right handed batters. \
