Well, lesson learned. I traded for a bad contract when the guy was really good. Here is the problem. He's 34 now, and Wrecked. Always on the DL. I thought I had him for this season and next 2. I can deal. But.....apparently the team I traded from had an extension signed that added another two years to the end. I can't do 5 years of this. Its just not doable. Trading is not an option he has 10/5 rights. Im seriously thinking of releasing him. Which is weird. His AAV apparently is somewhere around 20 mill. for the next 5 but If released I would pay 70 million which comes to around an AAV of 14 mill. Is it possible that extension is not included in the release payments? Any help and suggestions is appreciated!

How can he have 10/5 rights if he was just traded? Do you mean a no trade clause?
He needs to be with your team for 5 years to have 10/5 rights. |

Didn't mean to make it sound like I just acquired him. Hes been on the team for 6 years. Like I said. Really bad, long contract with this stupid extension tagged on the end.

an extension that early in a contract?
that is really odd. i guess i don't try often, but if i offer more than 1 year out from end, they aren't interested... saying "too early to talk" type feedback. definitely haven't tried in year 1-2 of a 6+ year contract (ie before you traded for him). maybe a few beers one night and added the extension because he was 'that' good? ![]() oh, check when the deal was worked out... any delegation of your GM responsibilities? i'd double check just in case. if it turns out something whacky happened, i think most can rationalize undoing the screw up when it wasn't supposed to happen in the first place. So this is an 11 year contract? You have had him for 6 and he has 5 more years left on his contract with 3 guaranteed and 2 option? years?

Ok, so Im taking another look at it. Usually I speak in generalities but Im done with that. So here are very specific statistics that aren't adding up.
He was signed for a 10 year deal the year I traded for him. Superstar of the league. Fast forward....This year Im going through right now is his 8th year of the deal. So he should have only 2 years left. And on the contract status screen thats correct. BUT....this is where it gets wacky and what has been throwing me off. On the Salary screen where you see all the salaries of players on your team. It lists the next two seasons correctly but then it says the two seasons after THAT, that there are 2 no-option 25 million years. Meaning a 10 year has turned into 12. It gets weirder. Go back to the contract status screen. In the extension screen it lists a contract extension for 2 years of.......yep, 25 million, BUT Its not for those two years the salary screen states. It lists it for the first two years of the 10 year contract. I am SOOO confused. |

If you go into Commissioner Mode, go to the Players Profile, then go to Edit Player. On left hand side, if you scroll all the way down you can manually change his salary/extensions. Check there if there is indeed an extension signed, and if there is, you can just delete it if you want. Once complete, turn Commission mode back off and continue along your merry way.
