2019 Financial Report
Here is the 2019 Financial report:
![]() Attendances have stabilised, with only Los Angeles and Chicago exceeding the 2,200 target, with Miami just missing out. As a result, the league will retain the target of 2,200 next season. However, due to sellout home crowds, Los Angeles will be expanding their stadium by 300 seats for next season. Furthermore, all teams are profitable, even allowing for the increased costs incurred as a result of the first season of free agency for many players. In fact, if all teams used their entire salary cap, with the exception of Pennsylvania, they would still make a profit. There are 47 free agents, more than enough to fill up a full squad. Although Pennsylvania finished bottom, we are still pleased with their performance so far, particularly considering the difficulty they had in recruiting players at the start of the season. Although thus far, they are the least profitable of the clubs, it must be borne in mind that the others have the advantage of two years of operations behind them, and we are sure that in time, Pennsylvania will be likewise. With all this in mind, the ABL has decided to expand the league to six teams from 2021 onwards. To facilitate this, the bye weeks will be eliminated, leaving an even 50-game season. 2020 will run with the same format as 2019, however as before suggestions are most welcome for where the league should expand next. There will be 24 hours from this post allotted for nominations, after which there will be a first round of voting. If there are no nominations, I will decide the team myself. If there is only one, the sole nomination will win, provided that the location is considered realistic. To nominate a location, just respond to this thread. Breaking News: ABL announces Minneapolis expansion
MINNEAPOLIS, MN: The commissioner of the American Baseball League paid a visit to Minneapolis today to formally announce that the city had secured the league's expansion berth.
The visit follows a vote by the existing owners in the league to admit the new team yesterday. The Minneapolis consortium saw off competition from St. Louis and Kansas City for the new team. A number of conditions were laid down in order to guarantee the viability of the bid, namely that the team would represent the whole state of Minnesota, and acknowledge Wisconsin as being in the sphere of influence of the Chicago Storm. The new team, who will be known as the Minnesota Millers, will begin play in June 2021. |
