Posting Current Strategy for Comment: Be Gentle!

Ok, so just wanted to run some of my strategy by the gurus here so you can tell me what I’m doing wrong. Not that I’m not winning games, I doing alright, but looking at some optimization. I’m playing as the Rockies, 2017 start. I’m in early August of same year.

I traded C Tom Murphy for C Carson Kelly (I added good prospects into the trade to get Carson). I’ve played with Tom before and he’s a .225-.250 hitter, but when he does hit its usually a HR. I wanted someone who could get on base and Carson is batting close to .300 with 10 HRs by All-Star break. I think this was a good trade, but interested in thoughts.

I also traded away Ian Desmond, Charlie Blackmon (great hitter, but he fields like my grandma) and some prospects and got Richard Urena, Rowdy Tellez and Jake Bauers. Rowdy is starting and I have Jake behind Carlos Gonzalez (I plan on letting him and his 20 mil contract go for a compensation pick at end of year).

After thinking long and hard about Hunter Greene (I traded up for the No 1 pick) I took Jeren Kendall with the No 1. I have Ramiel Tapia in LF and once Jeren reaches prime I’m planning on moving Dahl to LF for Jeren in CF and trading Tapia, or trading Jeren if Ramiel just dominates. Jeren is batting like .225 in AA, not sure what his deal is.

Gerardo Parra's contract is just terrible and I couldn’t get anyone to take the guy. I just released him around mid-season after a slew of injuries and ate the remainder of his contract. Oddly enough, the Diamondbacks picked him up for the league minimum. Jerks.
I have Richard Urena coming up to replace DJ LeMahieu, I plan on trading DJ in the offseason before arbitration. I couldn’t get a fair price for him by July 31.

Trevor Story. What can we say about Trevor? Sometimes he’s awesome and other times he gets 5 SOs in a single game. I am considering what I’l do if Brendan Rogers pans out over the next few years. Seems like a Urena/Rodgers middle IF would be pretty awesome.

My pitching blows. I have Jon Gray and Tyler Anderson is decent, but the rest is Chatwood, Dylan Covey (got him for Tony Wolters I think, he was sucking pretty bad for the CWS) No one will trade a P prospect for any price. I could offer a free night with Ariana Grande and the Hope Diamond and I couldn’t get a P prospect. Going to have to draft for it.

Anyway, interested in your thoughts. I am probably going to end up about 5-6 games over .500 this year and miss playoffs, which is ok since my plan was to contend next year.

Good post. I'd be curious as to what some of the vets here think as well.

Parra's contract issue reminds me of an issue I could be faced with towards mid-season, but so far so good.

I’m curious what the waiver wire looked like going into the season; with your SP situation, were there any back-end/spot starter types available at that time?

What does Carson Kelly’s contract look like at this point?

Carson is on the minimum for a few more years. His slash was .263/.327/.428 this year posting a 2.3 WAR. Not too shabby.

DJ LeMahieu had a good year and I was able to offload him with a draft pick and couple fair prospects for Chris Archer (I need pitching bad and TB is in rebuilding mode.)

But lo and behold! A pitching phenom appears! International superstar Akio Fukuda shows up in FA. 26 years old, durable, and has SIX PITCHES IN THE GREEN. With relative stats turned on! You bet your ascot I'm going after this guy.

Yes, Carson sounds like a good pick-up.

Wow, and with all that, Fukuda tops-out the radar in the high 90's. Some teams will likely make a strong run at him. If you can, try to post where his contract ends-up.

I got him for 5 years, the last being a player option. 13-15-17-19-19 for the five years. Not a bad deal if he pans out. I notice that these players always come with baggage. Looks like this guy's is walks lol.

Slow start to the year, 3-6 with Trevor Story hitting so poorly they're going to rename .200 the Story Line.
