Does anyone else think it's way too easy to steal in this game?
"Out of the Park Baseball 17" is the first game of the "OOTPB" series I've bought, and I just bought it back in July.
I've been managing the 1997 Cincinnati Reds since. One thing I have noticed is how unusually easy it is to steal bases in this game. I already broke the single-season Stolen Bases record with Deion "Prime Time" Sanders. It was his 108th game, and after 509 Plate Appearances, he stole his 131st base of the season. He ended up stealing three more that game. Now, after 111 games, and 530 Plate Appearances, he has 141 Stolen Bases, and has only been Caught Stealing 33 times(And three of those times were caught stealing home). I can think of TWO times he was caught stealing second out of the countless times he has done as such. Granted, he is an 80/80 in Speed, Stealing, and Baserunning, but this is still absurd. He might hit the 200 mark by the end of the season. ![]() He has also broke the single game record for Stolen Bases, where in one game he stole nine bases. Nine. He stole Home Plate THREE times in that game. He was 9/10 in Stolen Bases that game(TEN attempts). ![]() Has anyone else noticed how easy it is to steal bases, or am I just extraordinarily lucky? |

If anything I think it's a bit too difficult, but I'm just basing that off of my experience. I had a guy last season that has blue stats for all the base running skills, and he only stolen 12 bases and was caught stealing 16...perhaps I'm just terrible at stealing bases.

I have noticed that it seems especially easy to steal ridiculous numbers of bases in historical leagues, it may be related to the Pitcher Hold/Catcher Ability/Catcher Arm ratings in the historical database. I haven't noticed a huge success rate discrepancy in my MLB league.
If you are manually managing, keep in mind that you might not be following certain forms of "rest players late in games", "don't steal up N runs", or "don't steal down N runs" old timey baseball rules that helped to define what "realistic" steal totals are in our minds. |

Heh. I found just the opposite this year - much more realistic.
I'm a hit-and-run addict and this season has broken me of that habit as well.

I have never successfully stolen a base. Sad, I know.

Impressive - Sanders wasn't even in the big leagues in 1996 in your league. Pretty nice comeback.

OOTP17 is actually a little more realistic when it comes to stealing bases. In 16, you could easily steal 80+ bases in a modern league with a guy with 65 speed and 75 steal. In 17, I find it much more difficult to steal bases unless the player has exceptional speed and steal ratings.

I find the double-steal pretty easy.. provided the pitcher is at best average at holding the runners, you have a decent runner on second and a right-handed batter at the plate. But stealing second is pretty challenging in my personal experience.

Ben Revere has stolen roughly 21 bases in about 40 attempts for me. So no.

I've had this experience as well. A double-steal with good baserunners usually works but with just 1 runner on first base, stealing second base is difficult to do. |

No, I don't. I am running a league that starts with historical players from 1981, (am now in 1982), and stealing bases consistently is tough at best. 30+ steal guys like Paul Molitor provide the choice of running myself out of innings on a regular basis, or ending up with less than 10 steals. Willie Wilson is stealing at just over 50%, and so on...

There were a couple of mistakes: The statue was me batting left-handed, and I hit right-handed, and they got the number wrong. The statue was #7, and of course I wore #9 when I played with the Cards. No big deal, I think they got a deal on the statue. It was by some guy named "Stan the Man"---Bob Uecker |

Well, IRL he stole 56 bases and was caught 13 times which is just about the exact ratio you had so.........

I feel that steeling is much easier if you play historical since many pitchers especially of the 1980s and 1990s have really bad "hold" ratings in the game. I did experience similar things with historical starts (Kenny Lofton once topped 140 SB for a single season in a 1995 replay for me), but I never witnessed anything like that playing the 2016 quickstart.
Since it does seem to work as intended in modern games, I guess it should rather be an issue with historical pitcher ratings than with game mechanics. |

I do historical only as well, but have found stealing to be roughly the same as IRL maybe a bit on the "harder side" in OOTP Ricky Henderson's best year in my re-plays was 115 steals with being thrown out 38 times that year. So looking at it that OOTP17 is roughly in-line with expectations
