Question on Carrying Forward Leagues
Newbie here......but many years experience playing MicroLeague Baseball including via emulator. I just purchased OOTP and spent the weekend familiarizing myself with it.
Question....the way I've been playing MicroLeague is to pick (say) 8 teams and create a (say) 54 game schedule. I play the season manually. The next year, I start a separate league with new teams (usually 8 new teams but perhaps 1 or 2 from the previous season) and I play that season, yada, yada, yada. If I want to do this with OOTP using updated opening day rosters while compiling team stats (for record book usage), what is the best way to do it? I know how to play 1 season using opening day rosters, but it seems like I have to start a new "game" for my next season thus my historical stats aren't kept in any form of record book. Any help is greatly appreciated. As another example, I'm playing an 8 team league right now. At season's end, I would like to add new teams and delete old teams while retaining the historical records. At the same time, I want to use opening day rosters for my new teams. Thanks ahead of time! |

Questions/Clarification:
1) You want real life players or fictional players? 2) You want to keep the same rosters or do you want the same pool of players to be available for the new teams? 3) Do you want the players to age or have their talent change? I cannot tell what you are trying to do. 1) You can keep a league going forward. 2) I cannot tell if you want teams trading players or making roster moves. 3) I cannot tell if you want players aging out, having skills decline or improve. 4) You said you want Updates Opening Day Rosters which is going to be a mess to get down to 8 teams from 30. I am not sure what you are trying to do. It seems like you are going to have thousands of extra players. You could make it work but it will be funky and need maintenance. Please post answers to the above. OOTP can do a lot and you can probably get what you want.

What I'm trying to do is run a league every year with 8 actual MLB teams with real rosters based on opening day. I will then play the full season for the 8 teams (using a 54 game schedule). I want their stats to accumulate and be included in a league history. I won't allow them to pick up free agents from teams I'm not using - I essentially will ignore the free agent pool. They will only be allowed to make roster changes based on trading with one of the other 7 teams or by using their minor league system.
Next season, I want to pick 8 new teams (1 or 2 may be the same from the previous year) with new opening day rosters. If I choose a team I used in the previous season, I want their roster to reset to the current opening day roster. I want to do the same thing and play a full season with these 8 teams (using a 54 game schedule). It's like I want to start a new "game" with 8 new teams every year. I don't need any carry over from my previous 8 teams (i.e. I don't need them to age or have their skill change). I just want to start a brand new "game". The 1 caveat is I want a combined history of all of my leagues so I can track career numbers for players. Hopefully I'm making more sense. If not, let me know. |

It makes sense. You can turn off development and aging which will deal with regression. I am not sure how to handle a few things.
1) When you turn on and turn off teams you are going to have to move players back on the teams manually. You can do this in commissioner mode. It will just take some time. 2) Your player stats are going to be funky because of the years off. I do not think it will be worth the effort but you can retire them and bring them back if it is worth it to you. 3) You are going to have to do most of this manually. If you are willing to spend some time you can definitely do it. I think that when you start you want to decide if you want minor league players developing and entering the league. If not then you can just delete the minors and all/most of the players. If you want your player pool to remain the same perpetually (no improvement or regression) you can turn off development and aging. You can turn off finances and there are a few different options to control rosters in the setup options. You will have to read their descriptions. I would recommend you make a backup in game and/or a copy of your *******.lg folder in the saved_games folder for OOTP. I think this is going to take some work and if you get it working and lose it from corruption or some stupid problem that would suck. Good luck, I am not the most knowledgeable but I will try to answer any questions.
