So my Mac problems have only gotten worse...

Before it was just when I would bring the infield during a game that the screen would shift way over to the right, but now it does it right from the start of the game. Also, when I'm in between games and on the Manager screen/Team screen etc., the upper right section that normally shows the upcoming games now just says "No Game Data is available..." but is otherwise blank. And then when I start a game, it just skips right past the screen that shows both teams lineups and allows you to make changes, and goes right into the game. It almost seems like the game isn't installed properly, now that certain parts of the display are completely missing (this is just a wild guess on my part I have no idea if that's the problem). Has anyone ever seen this, on a Mac or PC, and knows what I may have done wrong or how I can fix it? As always, thank you in advance for your help, and sorry for my long-windedness lol.

Sorry, I'm on a Mac, and I've not experienced any of those things.

My advice would be unlicense the game, delete from your computer (including the install file), re-download the game (that's important) and re-install.

You may have a corrupted install, but you may have a corrupted installer, instead. Best to start completely fresh and see what happens.

That's kind of what I expected...

...I was actually thinking I might just have to buy a whole new copy, but deleting, un-installing and then re-installing is a good place to start. Thank you SO much for the advice, Ill let you know how it goes (although I may not actually do it for a few hours because the Cubs game is about to start and I want to make sure Im focused when I do it).

I unlicensed and deleted the game.....

.....but when I tried to re-download I tried both Download Server 1 and 2 and in both cases when I click on them a new window opens up that just says 404 Not Found. I tried them both multiple times and thats always what popped up.

That is very strange. I'm not sure what to say there.

I know I've been getting some timeout errors when trying to load up pages on the boards, maybe the OOTP server is groaning for some reason.

I wish I had something more concrete to tell you. Anyone else?

Fwiw.....

.....This morning I tried completely shutting down the Mac and re-starting it on the off-chance that might make a difference, but it didn't, still getting the 404 message, and it just pops up instantly, like it's not even trying or thinking about downloading the game.

BigRed75's suggestion to reinstall would've been my advice for the first problems.

As to the 404 error, try rebooting your router, maybe? When an ISP changes the DNS settings on their end, weird things can happen with browsers being unable to find websites. Like the restart the computer/unplug plug back in tricks, rebooting your router (or cable modem or equivalent) can sometimes cure mysterious ills.

Other than that, beats me, I'm afraid.

If worse comes to worst....

.....I just noticed OOTP17 is in the Mac App Store for $39.99, and I got a gift card for my birthday that would pretty much cover it. If all else fails could I just go that route? Because I was just thinking that I could have possibly messed up the downloading/installing process somewhere along the way (I am very new to Macs after all) and if I got it right from the App Store all of that would be taken care of for me?

Are you trying to download like from the original email servers? Those may not work anymore.
Use the link at the top left of the forums page, "Latest News: OOTP 17.10 available now!"
You should be able to download the most recent version from there.

Also, you mentioned the App Store. Was your original purchase from the App Store? If so, did you do something like apply a patch here to the App Store version? That might have screwed something up. The App Store has some Appley Appleness that is a little different than the stand alone version from OOTP.

No I originally...

...pre-ordered right from OOTP back in March. And yes, I was trying the original links in the email, it makes sense now that those might no longer work. I'll try downloading from the top of the forums page as you suggested. I've never gotten the game from the Mac App Store before, I've only had my Mac for about 10 days, but if the link on the forums page doesn't work I may just go that route just so I can have the game and be done with it, it's been too long since I've been able to play it lol.

you don't know for sure it's the installer that is curropt. if you don't mind losing 39.99, that's not a problem.

what you can look into:

firewall -- either the program or a blocked url.

isp - may have listed that url erroneously as malicious

try google dns -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Public_DNS

flush your dns from command prompt etc.. blah blah... not sure how to do that on mac or if even an option. you can even do a "tracert" on the url and see if a hop in between is jacked up.

2 problems - connectivity and the game itself. you are having a bad day. a 404 means from your pc's perspective it doesn't exist... not "cannot connect." isp's on occasion blacklist ip ranges for the wrong reasons.

do you use peer guardian or any other similar program?

you have a license, so if you have a friend onthe forums that's willing to send a fresh installer to you via email or setup a temp ftp on their pc/mac.

Great (mostly) News!

I re-installed the game using the link at the top of the forums page, and it worked great! Everything is 100% perfect, with one minor exception. When I'm playing an actual game, the black play-by-play window is squashed down to only about 1/4 of an inch high. The only way I can tell that that's the PBP window is I can see the little red microphone also squashed down. Everything else on the screen is right where it belongs, perfectly proportioned etc. except for that. It seems like it would be an easy fix, does anyone have any suggestions?

If you click on the red "Configure Screen" button in the top-right corner of the game screen, it will allow you to select the size and location (x and y axis) of the various components. I have the PbP box set to normal size. It's possible that you have the box set to normal but the x and y axis numbers such that most of the box is actually off the screen - try playing around with the numbers until you find a spot that suits you.

For point of reference, 0 x 0 y is the top left corner - x controls left/right position, y controls top/bottom. The maximum number is whatever you have your screen resolution set to.

Hope this helps! Glad you solved the install problem at least...

That absolutely helps!

I'm still working on getting it right, but at least I know how to do it. Thank you!
