Pitching Moves
I'm going to post pitching moves, tell you what I think of them, and you can tell me if I'm wrong in thinking that. No DH.
Bottom of the 8th, KC up 2-0 on Toronto, Price for Tor, Cueto for KC, nobody on, nobody out, Cueto coming up to bat. Cueto's line: 2HA, 1BB, 6K, 101Pi. Back in the 70s or earlier I'm leaving Cueto in. Nowadays, I'm taking him out for a PH. OOTP leaves him in. Not a huge deal, but questionable.

Depending on stamina I'd keep a pitcher in if they're effective and below 120 pitches.

I don't see anything questionable about it. He's pitching a heck of a game, why take him out? Because it's the norm to go to the pen more often?
If it's the top of 8th or 9th and he's starting to show signs of struggling, then I might consider pulling him. Or if the score is the other way around and KC is trailing, then I probably pinch hit. But that's just personal managing style, some managers go to the pen quickly, others like to let their starters go until they can't. Plus, what was KC's pen like? Are they tired because they pitched a lot lately? That alone is a good enough reason to leave Cueto in if he's pitching well. |

FWIW, I'm trying to educate myself on what others think of these situations to see if there are things I'm not thinking about.

I didn't look to see what relievers KC still had, but it was opening day 2017 so I assumed everyone was rested, but maybe that wasn't the case.

Not sure what OOTP thinks of Cueto's Stamina, but all other things neutral I'd leave him in, unless he faces a strong part of the lineup with opposite handedness in the ninth.

I'd say this is just about the definition of borderline for me. I could go either way and likely would make a different call on any given day.

It's opening Day, get him out at 101 pitches. But again, what did his 7th and 8th inning look like? What is the instructions given to Cueto for his AB? Swing away, don't swing? Now if he walks, do you really want him running around the bases, possibly getting out of breath for the 9th or worse, getting injured on Opening Day? And if he does reach, are you going to send a PR? And if so, why didn't you just pulled him out for a PH.
I assume Wade Davis will pitch a 1-2-3 ninth. And the fact that it's a TWO point lead makes a difference, you're not one pitch away from tying the game. Being a Manager is tough.
