cutting player with a team option on contract?

Looked through online manual and didn't see an answer to my situation.

I have P with these remaining years on his contract..

2029.. 9.7 mil
2030.. 10.0 mil (team option $0 buyout)

It is June 1 2029 in my league. Has enough years he refuses minor league assignment after waiver DFA. My only recourse is to keep him on the MLB team or cut him. Have tried to trade but nobody is going to want him and that contract. And no, I'm not going to give away prospects to move him I'd be better off eating the 10 mil. I have no problem cutting him and eating the rest of the 9.7 mil for 2029. So what happens with the 10 mil that is a team option if I cut him?

Only thing I see in manual is a team gets an email to exercise or turn down the option at season's end. So...

Do I get stuck paying it since I never get the opportunity to turn in down at the end of 2029?

Or does it just "go away" since if I'm cutting him I certainly have no intention of exercising the option?

Anyone else done this and know the answer?

Thanks.

If you cut him it treats it as though the team option is declined so you will be fine cutting him.

yeah, just the current year's salary will stay on the books - even if it was an option year before you executed it.

if oyu have draft pick trading on, get a 10th-20th rounder or whatever they offer. even a 30potential prospect with 1 attribute that you like and the chance at some TCR occuring. even if it seems like nothing, it could be worthwhile to trade for it.

trade for $1 cash (kidding try 500k-1M or something). something is better than nothing.

That's not what I see. Releasing a player with team options or player options means you pay them out. I'll see if I can post a screen shot.

Edit:

Just confirmed this while thinking logically that if team options didn't pay out it could be exploited badly by releasing players with multiple team options for nothing

You have to pay the buyout on the TO (which in his case is $0) but you don't pay the full contract amount. It is treated as though you had declined the option as I said.

edit: Here is a player who is just finishing the season and has 2 TOs with $1m BOs. I release him and I have to pay the 2 BOs (we are in the playoffs of the current year hence don't owe anymore on it) but not the full values of the TO years.

Yeah It appears I'm wrong and it does in fact decline the team option.

Sorry about that.
