When creating a brand new fictional league

Have a few questions:

Would you recommend starting in 1901 or 2014?

And what types of settings are your favorites in your personal leagues, I lack creativity

It's all about what kind of baseball you want to play. It's hard to recommend one or the other. 1901 is the deadball era. Modern is modern.

Of course, the league style doesn't necessarily have to correlate to the calendar date of your league. I started my league in 1996, but using default modern fictional settings.

I've done both. My preference is to play MLB-history, fictional players, beginning in 1901.

I'm not a fan of the deadball era, but I tolerate it long enough to start seeing less errors, more strikeouts, and more home runs in the mid-1920s. That always gives me satisfaction, to see the game develop over time.

As far as settings, I let the game control expansion, updating financial settings, PCMs, and league totals. Really, the only thing that is fictional about my league are the players themselves.

I tend to play with modern settings.
