Sometimes its okay when your pitcher gets some run support.
Dr. K got all he needed as the Mets stopped the Reds 10-5 @ Riverfront Stadium.
The Straw hit 2 HRs in this game and was 4 for 5 today.
One of the better games he has had all year.
Mook and Mitchell also hit a dinger each.
Doc Gooden gets his 13th win, giving up 5 runs in 8 IP!
Nice way to start a series off in Cincy!

I just read through this whole Dynasty today. 1986 was really the first year I got into baseball. I went to my first game that year. Being from MA, I am a huge Sox fan and then as an 8 year old kid I remember my parents recording the World Series games for me because I could never stay awake until the end of the games. I remember them not telling me how game 6 ended and let me watch it for myself. I now think I may want to try this from the Red Sox side of 1986. I know you are using exact lineups for the Mets each game but do you think the fact there is a 9 game difference between RL and this is in part because you aren't facing the exact lineup/pitcher of the opposing team? I mean 9 games isn't really a huge number and can be made up but just something I thought of while reading through. Can't wait to see how this ends up!

He is using the real lineup/pitcher of the opposing team. OOTP has the option to use real transactions and real lineups.

9 games is enough to be noticeable, though I guess in the end it comes down to the roll of the dice.

Ok I wasn't sure I thought I noticed a few instances where the starting pitchers were different. The obvious one that stood out was the game after the 4 Players were arrested in July. Real life Scott pitched and here it was someone different. In the last post he made July 21st vs. the Reds Mario Soto started in real life and Welsch started in his version.

I decided to take control of the lineups amd starters for the season just recently so OOTP will also do the same for other teams also but I am still using actual transactions so we are going to lose George Foster and we will get Lee Mazillli , the year wasnt going according to plan and some of the mets players in 1986 should never have pitched or batted, such as bruce berenyi and danny heep becuz they stunk!

Finally, El Sid has a good outing and gets some decent run support, as the NY Mets defeat the CIN Reds 7-4 @ Riverfront Stadium.
Fernandez gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, then the Mets bullpen completed the job he started.
Gary Carter hit his 13th HR of the year, and Lenny Dykstra hit his 4th.
Dykstra went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs also, so i gave him the Mets Man award.
Wally Backman contributed to the game with 2 hits, which kind of broke him out of his slump.
We will try to sweep the Reds tomorrow.

1986 Boston Red Sox

Here is a look at why the 1986 Boston Red Sox will NOT be playing the NY Mets in the World Series.
I had a few people mention the Red Sox in my dynasty, so i thought i would present to you, the WORST team in the majors.
Yes...they DO have the worst record in the league.

Now, after taking a look at the 1986 Red Sox, lets get back to a REAL baseball team.
The 1986 New York Mets, who in this game, thumped the CIN Reds 12-2 @ Riverfront.
Bobby O was awesome, as he went the distance only giving up 2 runs on 6 hits.
Everyone in the lineup got on base at least once in this game, with The Straw, Mookie and Mitchell hitting some dingers to help the cause.
I will give the Mets Man award to Ojeda, because he embarrassed the Reds at the plate today.
The Mets have two days off coming up due to weather.
Next Up: A 3 game series against the Atlanta Braves @ Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

7/26 Game 1

I dont know how to say this, but Bruce Berenyi almost blew an 8 run lead in the bottom of the 9th inning.
I know i should have yanked him out, but i wanted him to get some sort of accomplishment.
He really stinks!
But the NY Mets take game 1 of this doubleheader against the ATL Braves 14-12 @ Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
Dr. K gets the win, his 14th of the year.
Everyone in the Mets lineup got on base, while Kevin Mitchell went 5 for 6 in todays game with 2 RBIs.
He gets the Mets Man award.
The Straw hit his 13th HR of the year, too.
Trust me, i know i should have done the bottom of the 9th differently, but i really wanted to see if Berenyi was that bad!
He is!
Anyway, we have another game to play this evening.

7/26 Game 2

Will someone please tell me where this offense has been all year?
The NY Mets again embarrass the ATL Braves 10-2 in the 2nd game of the doubleheader @ ATL-Fulton County!
El Sid gets his 9th win of the year, and this time, my bullpen does not allow a close call.
We are now on a 5 game winning streak!
Wally Backman was 4 for 5 with an RBI tonight, so he is the Mets Man winner.
For the 2nd game in a row, every Mets player gets on base, only this time, every one in the lineup got a hit.
Ray Knight smacked a grand slam HR in the top of the 9th inning, to really put the game away for the Mets.
After running the bases, he came into the dugout and sat down next to me and Gary Carter.
He said, "Did i hit a Grand Slam as good as Gary?"
I looked at him and smiled and said, "Yes, you hit grand slams BETTER than Carter. Im very proud of you, Ray!"
I think "The Kid" heard me.
Because, when i got back to my hotel room after the game, and i laid down in my bed, someone had put shaving cream all over my mattress and pillows!
I had Barbasol all over me!
"CARTERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!"

The quick 5 game winning streak comes to an end, as the ATL Braves take this game from the NY Mets 4-2 @ Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
Bobby O pitched good enough to win, but ATL Zane Smith pitched just a little better.
The Mets got off to a quick 2-0 lead, but couldn't hold it, and they scored no more runs after that.
We do take 2 out of 3 in this series, and we are playing some better baseball.
Now we head back home to Shea.
Next Up: A 4-game series against the Chicago Cubs @ Shea Stadium.

This Week in Baseball--1986

As we get ready to close out the month of July, the 1986 Mets are in better shape than they were at the start of the month.
We have gone 15-8 for the month, and now hold a 9 game lead on the PHI Phillies.
I think we are doing better than we were, and now, the lineup has started to hit much better.
The pitching is still the best in the league, so im not worried about the mound guys at this time.
We are still -8 against the actual record, but we still have time to turn that around.

The Mets get cocky with the Cubs as they hammer them 13-1 @ Shea Stadium.
Ron Darling gets his 11th win, but he got tired after a long rain delay so i sent him to the showers early.
The Straw hit 2 HRs in this game, his 14th and 15th, and Kevin Mitchell smacked a long ball also, his 10th.
Mets hitters just destroyed Cubs pitching, knocking 17 hits, while the Cubs could only get 3 hits off of our mound masters.
Nice win to start a home series against the CHI Cubs.

7/29 Game 1

In the 1st game of a day-night doubleheader, Dr. K strikes out 10 and allows only 3 hits, as he gets his 15th win of the year.
The NY Mets shut out the CHI Cubs 6-0 @ Shea Stadium.
Dykstra, Backman and Mitchell collect 2 hits each against their ex-teammate, CHC Ed Lynch, who pitched pretty well for the Cubs.
But to me, it was Dwight Gooden winning the Mets Man award, as he was awesome today.
The Mets are now 20 games above .500!

Its not easy to win both games of a doubleheader, but the NY Mets have done it again.
Rick Aguilera gets the start and pitched like a future All-Star, as the NY Mets stopped the CHI Cubs 3-1 @ Shea Stadium.
Roger McDowell does something that is hardly ever done now a days, he gets TWO saves in one day!
Hernandez and Knight had two hits each, but the Mets Man award goes to Aguilera, who i put on the mound in place of still resting El Sid.
A chance to sweep all four of these games against the Cubs will be tomorrow night!
