Any way to import every MLB player into one game?

I kind of what to fool around with the best players from each state/country from MLB history all in one game.

I was wondering if there was an easy way I could easily import everybody from ML history into a game at once.

I know it's a long shot, so...

Yep, just use the import historical via .txt file format to import them all at once.
If you want to assign them to teams, import them as free agents and then export the rosters (free agents are always listed on the bottom of the rosters.txt files), assign the team ids to them and reimport the rosters.

How would it know which years to import? Would they all import as "rookies"?

No, I was waiting on a response from this before I started working on it.

It won't. You have to figure that out and add the year in the .txt file. It can be any year from debut to end of career.
Personally, I'd import all as rookies, set my options on the import screen and see what happens..
If you want to import as rookies, simply use my historical importer (click link in sig.). It's made for open office, but you should be able to use it in excel as well even though the concantenate formulas may not work you can still delete all the columns except lahman id and debut year and save it as a .csv file. Change .csv to .txt (make sure there is no space between the comma and yr.) and import to ootp. All players who ever played will import as rookies.
Hope this helps. If you can't do it, send me a pm and I'll do it for you and attach it here or upload it..

P.S. Since you want to sort players by state/country. Would it help if I created a .csv version that you could open in any spreadsheet that would also include their state/country in which you could create separate .txt files for individual state/country???

I downloaded your thing in Excel, and it looks great! I can't believe I missed it when you released it.

Here's what I did:

- Copied the names of the players born in the state (Alaska) from BB-ref in the appropriate column.
- Created a VLOOKUP to automatically load the players' debut years in the next column over.
- Since I want these players to be based on the best years of their career, similar to the way Strat-o-Matic creates its Hall of Fame cards, I selected, "Base Potential Ratings on... Peak Seasons of Career". I based Fielding and Pitcher Stamina on "Entire Career" as well.
- After importing the players as free agents, I exported the rosters and imported them into Excel. Then I copied all of the potential ratings, and pasted them over the current ratings. After I re-imported and re-scouted, all of the players were there with their best possible ratings.

Thanks to your tool, importing players was so much easier than literally going on every players' BB-ref page to look up their best season.

Great job and glad to help...vlookup is your best friend!!
I'll be releasing an update to the utility shortly after Christmas. Then it'll be complete up to 2014 rather than it's current 2012

Nope, it easy as pie. If you only want to import specific players, create a .txt file with the players lahmanid, year. When you got all the players you want entered in the .txt file, import them into ootp using the import from .txt file feature.
You can start a real historical season in any year of your choice and just set the options to auto import players in their debut yr. and ootp will handle the rest.

You know how long it would take to copy & paste every player from history's lahman? I am guessing weeks.

Say what???. That's why I made historical Importer. Everything you need is in 2nd and 3rd columns, copy and paste that to a text file. Takes a couple of minutes.

I want to import every MLB player from every era into a game as rookies and then have an inaugural draft. Is that possible with this program?
