All Time All Star Roster Project
The first league I was even in (BBPro) was a league of the all time all stars (The All Star Baseball League), but if folded before the close of the first season. Being my first league ever I found this to be incredibly exciting, starting a hobby that i've been with for years now. That was about 5 years ago and I have not been able to find another. The idea is to be able to have a rotation with randy johnson and walter johnson, or an outfield of barry bonds babe ruth and mickey mantle.
I'm trying to put together a roster set like this using the lahman database. I figure I would import enough players to fill at least a 25 man roster for each team (about 750 players less if i go with fewer teams which i may) as a place to start. I would import the players at different points in their careers, more or less randomly, so some players will be retiring and others just comming around and some in their prime. I am also taking into consideration that if this file is going to be useful for career play I cant just import all the best players, otherwise the amatures would suck compared to the greats of the game, so i would save some of the great players for later. I have recently purchased Bill James' baseball abstract and one of the cool things included is his rankings of the best 100 players at every single position! This is very usefull not for rankings but for names of the so many great players. How good they actually are will be determined by their stats in the database, not bill james' win shares. If anyone has any input at all it would be greatly appreciated, while i have messed around quite a bit i have never actually created a roster file like this. And PLEASE! if you know of something like this that already exists please let me know. I know there is another post similar to this one and a guy says he has one but i dont think its what i'm looking for. again, any input, thoughts, suggests, comments or chatter would be greatly appreciated Thanks! |

If I create a 30 team league i would make
60 catchers - each team should have two 45 1B, 2B, 3B, SS - 1.5 per team 40 LF, CF, RF - 1.33 per team this should give each team two catchers, 6 infielders (4 starters, 2 backups), and 4 outfielders, a total of 12 position players, and I would probably create a few more players, maybe an extra 5 or 10 at each position. The rest would be pitchers Take the catchers for example, I would take 6 out of the top 10, 6 of the next 10 ect... in the player rankings i have (again, his rankings are not all that important, they just serve more as a list of names than anything else). This would leave me with 4 out of the top ten and going down for future ammy drafts. I'm just kinda putting this all together and thinking it through as i go.... |
