It always struck me that the number of injuries was ok but it was the number of severe injuries that seemed out of whack. Tons of MLB players miss games here and there and stretches of games here and there all season, but the number of injuries that required players to miss multiple weeks in a row always seemed very high.

Exactly, that's my problem with it.

The list that I have a few posts back, it's not like all of those guys are out for a few days. The overwhelming majority of them are out for weeks.

This is going to be a tough season.

Anyone else have any stories of some bad luck injuries?
Playing as the Giants...1st two weeks had Bumgarner go down for 8-9 months and Lincecum go down for 4 months a week later

I don't disagree that there are career-ending injuries in both real-life MLB and OOTP, and I can't say how their frequencies compare. I just wish there was an option to not have career-ending injuries as I like to see players be able to play an entire career, especially the very good players. I find my self having to go in and edit a player back into the league after he sustains a CEI.

Thanks for the scolding; you'll note I said I didn't like them, not that they were unrealistic.

I speculated about this last year and Markus assured us that the numbers were realistic. Take a look at the Yankees' real life roster for a nasty example.

And for those of you bothered by these, turn injuries down. You don't win a prize for playing the game with default settings. Use the customization rules available to you. There's also a "clear injuries" function in the league setup tab that lets you wipe them all out in one click.

Exactly... And I'll add I've done so in every sports sim I've ever played regularly from Sega NHL to Madden to OOTP. Bulging disabled lists are not my idea of " play".

Lower injury settings also dumb the game down.
No, they don't. The very definition of a AAAA "replacement level player" is that he is available virtually anywhere at no cost. Austin Kearns or Chris Dickerson is not going to replace Joey Votto.

Fatigue means that benches are still important, and there are plenty of injuries at "very low" that will require roster moves during the season, and there's no guarantee in any game that the star players you pick will perform better than other teams' star players. Leaving the injuries low means the best play against the best. I'd rather try to decide whether to pitch to Stanton or pitch around him, or whether to pinch hit for someone to try to break up a no-hitter by Verlander.

Your speculation about effects on FA is off too... If anything, it makes the AAAA characters more able to extort money than they are when they are looking for minor league jobs as they should be.

I realize most like to play with real-life injury settings, and that's fine, but you don't get any brownie points for doing so. You just get to enjoy your "dumbed down" game as you like.

Guys there's really no need to insult each other over settings in a video game.
As for the injuries, yes they are realistic, yes the number of long term injuries are consistent with real life, and no it's not fun when it happens to you. That's really all there is to it. Every year same thread LOL.
Here's some numbers.

-Last season there were 486 players placed on the disabled list.

-102 of those players missed at least 100 days(this does not take into account players who's injuries carried over into the season)

-As for star players, here's some names that missed 100 days or more: Carl Crawford, Brian Wilson, Brandon Beachy, Cris Carpenter, Carl Pavano, Kyle Drabek, Troy Tulowitzki, Ted Lilly, Neftali Feliz, Mariano Rivera, John Danks, Brett Gardner, Ryan Madson, Andrew Bailey, Grady Sizemore, Joba Chamberlain, John Lackey......
