Defensive Shifts and Spray Charts

I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be, but as an OOTP player that plays out every game it would be nice to have defensive shifts actually matter through the use of hitter tendencies and spray charts. Maybe this is too much to ask of the PBP game engine though.

Love the idea of spray charts.

It would be cool of scouting a player would give you an up to date or accurate spray chart.

Defensive shifts matter. But I put in a request to add outfield shifts and not just infield shifts. And I agree that, generally, it would be helpful if it became more clear that these strategies have a real impact on results

1) This is clearly something that real baseball is using a lot more.
2) So OOTP should implement and model.
3) But not until we have accurate metrics on how this is used in MLB and what the impact is.
4) And Markus can implement this in a way that mimics the effects seen in real life, and won't break something else.

It would be very interesting to have a big pull hitter up, the defense goes into an overshift, and the OOTP manager has him drop a bunt every other at bat. That's really one of the great things about a sim like OOTP - you can implement strategies and observe results that real players/managers are too risk-averse to try.

In my opinion this isn't something that is needed right now. We already know if a hitter is spray, normal or pull hitter. We already know how likely he is to get a hit based on his ratings. I don't see a need for this until we have some sort of 2d or 3d display.

No. I'd use a bat.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
