Agents in OOTP
This is probably too much of an overhaul for ootp14 but maybe for 15...
How about adding sports agents into OOTP? There could be a limited number of agents in the game, each with a slightly varied personalities. One would be the uber agent who has ruthless demands on his clients (i.e. Scott Boras) and then the rest would be placed at various levels of easiness to deal with. The more deals you make with clients of each agent, the more the relationship would grow and would allow future deals to be made with greater ease (imagine Scott Boras and the Nationals). But also, the relationship would go down after failed transactions, and treating their clients badly (trading them away on 1-year deals, benching them, etc.) The agents could also sign amateur players and you would have to work through them at the draft (which would bring a whole new level of intrigue into which players you choose to draft). If you had a bad relationship with the agent of an amateur, that would effect his signability with your organization. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I for one think this would be an amazing addition to future versions. |

That's a pretty fantastic idea; I just don't know if it could be implemented very realistically.

I would like this approach and overall a revamp in the way FAs and Amateurs are negotiated with. This is a great idea in my opinion.

Oh come on, the players are already greedy as hell, I don't want to deal with Scott Boras on top of that.

Agreed, it would add a lot of complication to things, and it's another layer of AI for people to moan about lol..

Well, as with most things in OOTP I think there should be a way to turn them off if you didn't want them. I however, would like to know from the beginning if I'll be able to keep players or not. If you know that your #3 pitcher has Boras as an agent, then you can say to yourself "I know in 2-3 years he's going to ask for the moon, so I really need to find a replacement now for the farm system". I'm really tired of players outgrowing arbitration and suddenly thinking they are worth $150 million. If you knew who their agent was, it would give you a heads up.

What would be the difference in effect between a "good" and a "bad" agent? By definition one would think that agents would favor big market teams. I'm curious how the AI teams would interact with agents. They don't always do a good job identifying and signing FA now. If that got any worse due to the application of a stilted agent profile, one could just sit back and watch the AI teams bankrupt themselves. Something they already do. I'd prefer a better implementation of AI evaluation parameters that would help AI teams avoid signing the majority of FA that are declining and leaving the younger ones for the Human player. Once that is accomplished then adding layers of complexity might be fun. Just my
