As far as I know this is either his first year of arbitration eligibility or he has one more year under team cost control. You know its a very young team when Pennington is cited as "experienced" relative to a large part of the roster.

I wish this was an online league, I'd start scouring your minors and coming up with a trade offer.

Here's something that might make us feel a little better about our chances:
A's are 50-31 at home this season which is 2nd best in MLB. Tigers are 38-43 on the road which is the worst among playoff teams. |

Which means that they only win 1.38 games out of every 3 on the road. that just isn't going to cut it here.
![]() What do you make of the Albuqueque kiss flap? When I saw it yesterday, I thought he was just thrilled to not be part of another bullpen implosion and didn't give it a second thought. Apparently, it has the Oakland boys all ruffled up.

You guys need to get the Tigers off your backs, or out of your tanks, or something. Six straight post-season losses by the A's now, all to the Tigers (going back to their sweep of the 2006 ALCS).
On a lighter note, I didn't think this was a big deal, did you? But Josh Reddick called it "immature and not very professional . . . You don't do that on the field. Save it for the dugout." [That's Tigers RP Al Alburquerque (What a name! Is his first name actually Albert? ) kissing the ball before tossing it to first for the final A's out of the game.]EDIT: Apologies; I just noticed that CONN CHRIS mentioned this in his post a few minutes ago.

It wasn't the final play of the game. It was the final play of the top of the ninth with the score tied, 2 runners on and go ahead run at third with an often toxic Detroit bullpen trying to plug the leaks. I think he was just uber-relieved in the moment and kissed the ball out of sheer joy at not being part of another bullpen disaster.
The fact that the A's are worked up about it can't hurt though.

Re: the kiss
I'm just gonna copy & paste what I wrote on another board ![]() It's like Derek Lowe's "crotch chop" at the end of Game 5 of the 2003 ALDS. Guys get a lot more pissed off after losing a heartbreaker of a game. I don't think it was that bad. It was a big moment in the game and he got a huge out from the A's best hitter. Still, probably better to not do it but I'm not flipping out over it. I think the Tigers and at least the fans that I've encountered have been pretty classy so far this postseason. That said though, I do hope Cespedes does what he said - hit a moonshot off Albuquerque in Oakland and kiss his bat before rounding the bases....

dola,
I'm going to be pissed though if Brett Anderson throws at Miggy Cabrera in retaliation in Game 3 and gets himself tossed. If you have to retaliate, save it for next season. |

When I looked at that picture, I smiled at what looked like a display of a young guy's honest emotion. Then I read the A's weren't too happy about it, at least Josh Reddick. But, you know what, let me say this (excuse me, A's fans): People are getting a bit too politically correct these days. There's hot dogging and there's just simple celebration. Alburquerque (man, it's hard typing that name!) was not rubbing it into Cespedes or the A's in doing what he did. Was he? I mean, after he did that, did he stand and gloat, do a dance, or stare into the Oakland dugout? Because, that IS hot dogging, in my book. But again, I did not see the game so I don't know what happened next.

I think he just went to the dugout after the out. happy as heck that he didn't blow the game.

I will say too, Josh Reddick is the last guy who should be calling anyone immature or unprofessional. He slams his bat and helmet when he flies out and runs around in a Spiderman costume. I can imagine he is quickly becoming a hated player for fans of other teams.

But, all is fair until you look like you are either:
Now, will you folks win at least one in Oakland despite this other opinion? ![]()

Gotta think they'll win at least one game at home. What a sad way to go out if they don't.

The first part of his lastname is redundant. He should be named Al Burquerque.
