The impact of promised roles

The online league I participate in is currently going through its first free agency on OOTP 13. I'm wondering if anyone can explain to me what impact, if any, promised roles have in negotiations - as well as any long-term effects.

I'm certain that promising roles does, in some way, improve the chances that a player signs. What happens, though, if a player is promised a spot in the starting lineup but then placed on the bench? Do they just get mad? Does OOTP have some mechanism to force the issue? Does the player ask to be traded, or ignore any extension offers? Does it affect the team's standing with current free agents at the same position, or future free agents in general?

The feature appears to be undocumented, so any clarification would be appreciated.

I'm pretty curious, too. I've seen players ask to be promised to be the closer or be in the starting line-up when you first start negotiating with them, but this has only happened for players I wasn't particularly interested in so I moved on.

Hopefully, a member of the Beta team that tested this can help fill you in.

From what I've seen, it affects the player's morale, which in turn can affect the player's performance.

As fdterr@gmail.com said that's what it mostly does. It can affect his and the rest of the teams performance.
Now if you have storylines on that is tied to morale and can lead to them asking to be traded or possibly retire. That's the great part about the storylines they can add so much
Having them happy will affect the contract offers, i have no idea about that affecting FA's but that's a good question. It's possible FA's look take into effect how happy the new team is but i don't know what effect that would have on them anyways but i guess it does play a role so that's a good suggestion, though i don't think the game goes into that much detail yet

I appreciate the speculation and anecdotes, but it would be nice if there was some documentation or official statement out there about this.

Also I'm not at all advocating that these start affecting other free agents, please lord don't think that's a suggestion or an idea or even a thing that should happen. If there's one place that doesn't need more variables, it's free agency.

This. If a player is promised a closers role but is being used as a 7th inning man, he gets angry. When his moral goes down so does his performance.

Storylines seem utterly broken to me, I have them turned off until I'm convinced they make sense. To be fair, I never had the storyline of a disgruntled player
