The A's history totally goes against that. No way, no how.

Not really. Lets just say he plays 100 games and goes .280 with 15HRs. That's giving the benefit of the doubt that he does really well considering he hasn't played in a while. That means next year we'll be in the exact same OF position that we're now.... Not knowing if our young OF/DHs can play. Are we a playoff team this year? -Not even close.

This kinda makes sense if you thought at the AS break to move manny and I hope that is the plan. But he won't have that many games to prove he can play since the 50 game suspension.

I guess there are some fans who would pay to see Manny (over a Cowgill, Taylor, Carter), but for once I'd like to see our young talent get some playing time. I have a sneaking suspicion that the A's management think two of those players are AAAA caliber and don't think they'll make it.

I could see a scenario where Cespedes starts in AAA and when Manny is eligible, if he looks like he can still hit at a high level, trading Crisp and putting Cespedes in CF, Reddick in RF, Gomes/Smith in LF and DH Manny.

If Manny looks like nothing then you cut him and don't have to pay him from my understanding if he never makes the 25 man major league roster.

Plus remember this is the A's and like 6 guys will be on the DL by the time Manny is eligible to come back from his suspension and we'll need bodies to fill out the lineup.

It feels like summer weather today. It's sunny and in the 70s. Lets skip spring training and just start the games now.

Well we would have gone had Jeremy Giambi known what sliding was. Instead Jeter was immortalized on a play where Giambi still to this day looks safe, but I actually agree with calling him out just on the principle of him not sliding.

What a sick twisted joke. First hour of ST and we may have lost Sizemore for a quite a while.

It's certainly a more compelling story than a team with a 100+ Million payroll. The movie does over emphasis the one year though. That kind of thought existed in the As org long before the 2002 season. In fact Beane got it from the GM before him the way I understand it.

100 million is kinda weak when there's teams that have had over 2x that much.

Since yes, not in 2002. I mean it would be basically the same story as making a movie about the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008.

Not really. The point was not that they won on a low payroll, but what was being done behind the scenes. What was being done behind the scenes in Tampa Bay? Being horrible for a decade and getting high draft picks that turn out to be stars. There is nothing compelling about that story. Might as well make a movie about people playing OOTP because that's OOTP 101.

That blows, because I was hoping for a breakout year from him.

Yeah, the reason Lewis even wrote a book about 2002 was because this stuff was already going on and he wanted to go see it first hand. 2002 was good for the story though because they had to replace Giambi.

Eh. The great, great team of Rosales/Sogard isn't gonna do that much worse than Sizemore. -I guess if you thought Scotty was going to have a breakout year, then there will be a drop off of projected numbers. I was kinda thinking the opposite.

I thought Sizemore *overperformed* last year and was looking for a regression.

In either case, I wouldn't wish anyone to get hurt. Having health depth is beneficial, especially when he showed flashes last year.

I just hope that this injury isn't the first of many like recent years.

If Adam Rosales gets more than 200 plate appearances for the A's this year, I might poke myself in the eye with a fork.

I have more faith that Rosales could repeat his 2010 than Sizemore's can repeat last year. But that's just me. Even with a healthy Sizemore, 3rd base is a big, big question mark. It gets into the 'disastrously embarrassing' territory without him.

Apparently Josh Donaldson (catcher from the Harden '08 trade) is working out at 3B right now. Frankly I'd rather see him there than Rosales, because at least Donaldson is an unknown commodity that might pleasantly surprise us. We pretty much already know what Rosales is.
