The fact that you're NOT buying this game leads me to believe you're blind.

It's typically a while before the demo is released. But this is the third version of the game I've bought (version 3, 4 and now 5). Very very good game.

The thing is that I can only afford to but one baseball game per year and I generally buy Baseball Mogul. I want to play the demo for comparison (BBM's is already out) before I but either.

Tiger Fan...I was a big mogul fan until finding OOTP3. I've never gone back to mogul since. It really depends on what you want. Mogul is more geared to detailed managing...calling pitches and stuff. OOTP is geared towards the overall running of a team. Financials, contracts, Free agents...so again it depends on what you are personally looking for.
Check the forum though and make your choice. I believe there is a demo for OOTP4...check www.ootp4.com for that. Granted, it won't have all the new bells and whistles but it will give you a good idea of the general game engine and quite a bit of the basics of the game...those have not changed. Whichever decision you make, I hope that you will enventually try OOTP and join the community.

If you want depth and control over your team and league then OOTP5 is for you, if all you wan to do is simulate a bunch of seasons quickly and with not nearly the depth or control over a team then BBM is for you.
A demo probably won't be out for about a month or so.

a little of both
I want the depth of control that OOTP has but I played the demo for OOTP last year and was turned off by one thing... the speed (some of you may remember me complaining about this last year). I was bored to death waiting for games to be simulated. Markus has said that OOTP5 is faster, the question is, how much? That is what my decision will be based on. I just don't play slow sports management sims too much. For example I have and love Eastside Hockey Manager but I almost never play it b/c of the speed even though it has a TON of depth.

Don't notice any speed difference between 4 and 5...not in my opinion at least. But I'm not timing a full season. I usually sim a month or a week and then go look at stats and make lineup adjustments etc...
I get in a few seasons per day when I focus on the game. Guessing it would take you about 20 min (maybe 15) to sim a season with no stopping or looking around.

As someone who was a big Mogul fan and was initially put off by the speed of OOTP, I'll tell you that you will get used to the speed decrease and come to appreciate how much more you can do with OOTP. There are ways of speeding the game up, like turning off minors simming, that can help. I don't do that anymore anyway, though. The speed is no longer an issue for me.

I've tried the demo, and I agree with Ragin that there is no difference in speed between ver. 4 and ver. 5. Even with turning off the minor leagues, I just simply do not find this game to be fun. I love the _idea_ of many of the features, but when I click to sim one day and have to wait, that just turns me right off. If Markus, and the other developers (if there are any) want my buck for ver. 6 or any future OOTP product, they (or he) will have to focus on optimizing code and things like that that are needed to speed this game up. That is my two cents (for what it's worth
).

Thats fine, alot of the speed of the game and what you are looking for in a game do mesh together. If speed and being able to sim many, many seasons w/o much depth then a game like Mogul is fine. I've played it off and on for year but "for me" I get bored after 20 minutes.
To each his own.

baseball mogul you can only have fun in an online league, which i like better. i would rather have bbm in an online league rather than OOTP because i can sim through and scout and such. when i play ootp its fun but sometimes i get bored with the slow simming, but i dont go play bbm2k4. the AI is stupid, and it is incredibly easy to create a dynasty, there is no ammy draft, the free agent section is crap, you don't offer or get denied, its no fun by yourself. thats why i use it for league purposes only. which i am in 3. bbm2k4 lacks many new features and everything bbm has ootp5 has and better, what turns most people off is the sim speed. which has its up and downs, both games are fun but very different. overall ootp is a better value and will be more fun overall if you literally play the games.
