Is the game easy to grasp/play?
Is there a website with game instructions & how to buy it? Is there a trial period? Is it $39 for everything including real baseball seasons or do you pay for those seperately or do you have to create them yourself like in the dynasty section? Never played games like these but it sure has captivated me in last 2 days after coincidently ending up here searching for CCBL Logos which I found. Thanks. |

Hi Cape Cod Baseball!
First let me say I'm a complete novice when it comes to baseball, so you may have one up on me there. I really enjoy other sports simulations, and after reading reviews over the past 3 years about the previous iterations of OOTP I finally bit the bullet and bought OOTP12. In spite of my almost non existant baseball knowledge but trusting in my ability to learn I have found this to be the most addictive sports management game I've ever played. I've only had the game for a week, but am finding myself becoming hopelessly addicted to the game. Given the learning curve I have ahead of me, I'm finding I'm learning something new and interesting every single time I play or check into the forums here for a read. I've a long way to go, but there are enough options in the game to cede as much or as little control over the team you manage to your coaches. I'm finding I'm slowly resuming a few more functions here and there from my coaches as my confidence grows to dip my feet in the water. It's a game that requires patience, alot of wading through stats/ratings and cross referencing them, and often having to make tough decisions. For example, You have a nice looking 2nd base young prospect doing well batting in your AAA minor league team, but his defensive stats aren't a scratch on your otherwise less than consistent at bat- 2nd base in your major league team, who also has in his favour good utility at SS. Do you bring up the youngster into your active squad of 25 and accept a higher error rate in exchange for hopefully a stronger offense? Or do you let your rookie stay on the boil a little while longer, employ better staff in your minor league team and hope his fielding improves to the point where he's not a liability. This is but one of an almost limitless number of decisions you have to consider. It can be a daunting game, as the choices and options at your disposal are huge and it can be hard knowing where to start. But if you say start out letting the AI do most of the heavy lifting and resume control as you get more of a feel for the game, it's an extremely rewarding experience. Plus so far on here, inspite of my almost complete lack of knowledge of baseball, folks here are willing to answer questions asked in good spirit in kind. I don't think there is a demo available yet, however from the posts I've read on the forum, it would seem one is in the works some time down the track. The game has an online manual that can be accessed within the game, although it is still in production. In the meantime the OOTP 11 manual will suffice for most things. For the $39 you get everything. You will need to use the forums here though for addons such as historical player pics, leagues, ballpark pics etc. But again they're for free. For a trial, you can download OOTP8 for free, it's a few versions out of date but gives a very good flavour of 12. Alternatively, if you have an iPhone, iOOTP is very cheap and is a slimmed down version of 12.

Thanks everyone for the great info. & replies. I'm going to continue to read the forum thru the weekend, check out the v11 manual, & possibly the v8 demo. Pretty sure i'm going to dive in head first after that bcuz I can't stop reading & looking at this forum after getting here by total coincidence 3 days ago.
