Trading draft picks?

Hey all,

How do you trade draft picks? i.e. if you really want a high pick in the first round because you've spotted an amazing prospect, is it possible to trade either your lower draft picks to another team, or a player, or both?

Matt

I think there's an option when you're negotiating a trade whether to ask for or offer draft picks. If I remember correctly it's underneath the cash amount box.

I think the OP means trading picks DURING the draft itself, rather than adding them to trades. You can't trade picks to move up and down in the draft, except if you bag another teams pick via trade before the draft starts. Remember, in real life teams aren't allowed to trade picks at all so having it in the game is just a fantasy option.

Yep, MLB does not allow trading draft picks.

Pretty sure that you need to complete any draft pick trades at least one full day before the draft.

Also, if you are wheeling and dealing, the draft pick that goes on the trade block is the highest pick you have in that round.

Say that you have picks 1 and 10 in the first round. If you try to trade one of the picks, the drop down will only show one first round pick and if you select round 1 and complete the trade, you will be trading away pick 1 rather than pick 10. Now, after you have your first round pick on the block and select another dropdown (you can trade away five picks at once, I believe) you will see the other first round pick. But even if you select that one and then cancel the first the game will still trade away the highest pick.

I don't see it anywhere

I am looking at the trade interface of the current version of the game, and I am not finding a way to add a draft pick to a deal, or simply trading a player for a draft pick.

I used to do this all the time in previous versions, but I haven't played in a long time, so maybe I've just forgotten how it's done.

But if it's been removed, that's OK.

This used to be a way of tricking the AI into lopsided deals, as it often would undervalue high draft picks. We'd refer to it as "the sucker trade" and had to exercise personal restraint not to use it to build powerhouse teams.

If trading draft picks has been removed, it's probably for the best. And more true to life, too.
