Opinions Requested Please

After several tries I have finally made my first logo using Gimp. It isn't nearly as nice as what I would have liked for it to be but it's a start. Using Gimp is not as good as say Adobe PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro.

This thread isn't what I think of my first logo, it's about what you think.

What changes do I need to make?

Thanks for your input.

not bad for ur first logo. One thing i would say is that u cant read the top part of the logo the inner logo . to me it kinda looks a little blury but that might be the bright spot in the logo (the top left ) thats giving the apperance of it being blury . well thats my 2cents and again not bad for ur first logo.everyone has to start somewere and learn from there

I agree w/soadeathdealer; very good for your first try, but the team logo is a little blurry. I also feel that the glossy effect is a little too bright on the upper left corner.

I'm not familiar w/Gimp, but what I'd do is sharpen the team logo and increase it to 110/115% aprox. and lower the glossy effect's brightness/opacity just a bit.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to set the size of the inner logo where it would be readable. But where I got that inner logo from it's in very small print. I do agree with you that the light gradient I added should have been made more opaque.

Just to let everyone know, the inner part of my logo is the new primary logo for the Round Rock Express.

Find your inner logo in a larger size and size it down to fit. Sizing up always pixelates unless you're dealing with vector images.

My suggestion to enlarge and sharpen the inner logo was because of its size, but this is excellent advice. I was about to suggest this myself.

Thanks for finding me a bigger one Soadeathdealer. I hope I'm not asking a silly question but how would one go about removing that white background without losing any white color in the logo?

Use the magic wand tool to select the white area, then just cut it.

Hmmmm. Let me think on that 1. Yes bud you may use it. Any logos I post (other that that first 1, he he) may be used by whoever wants to use them. As to the uni ques, no I'm not that far advanced with Gimp. I am very interested in learning how to do the uni's and caps though.

Glad you like it. I do too.

It seems that your 'light' area (top left) is overlapping the outer edges. Is it possible to place the light area layer under the outer edge layer?

The newer logo looks much better. Can you put the gloss/light layer on the top? (I assume you can, but I don't work with light or reflection effects ever). Right now, it looks like you took a shiny surface and stuck a sticker on it.
