Not trying to reopen an old thread but let me reiterate :

BUY IT HERE!

I did the $19.99 -- assumed that it was the same thing as here ---

1) Can't get any patches
2) Impulse won't refund unless VIVA MEDIA okays the refund
3) Viva Media does not respond to emails

I'm out $20... (pending a usually fruitless paypal complaint)

jzicc: I responded to your ticket, but for others that might be affected I'll repeat part of my response here:

I've emailed the "online distribution person" at Viva Media with your problem with not being able to get a patch for the Impulse version nor a refund. He's always gotten back to us before on other issues, so I'm confident he'll help us out here too. Because it's a holiday weekend, it may take longer for a response.

i know if ya buy the game from somewhere else other then here make sure the patch is from teh same place otherwise i have heard they wont work together......i know i downloaded 10 from a friend and tried to update from here it didnt work so this time around i just decided to buy it from here

I bought a Paradox game from Impulse and couldn't get the patch to get it to the latest version. To Impulse's credit, when I complained they refunded my money. I have bought a couple other games via Impulse that I have had without problem.

I'd bet that most games downloaded from a friend are suspect.

Thanks Old Timer. I'm in the same boat as jzicc as well and will be interested in what Viva Media has to say on the issue.

Well, I for one bought the game here and have downloaded BOTH THE .15 AND .17 PATCH AND SURE AS HELL WISH I HADN'T----not only did those patches damage the game but they made it impossible to go back and use 11.1.8 so I'm stuck with a game that is far less than satisfactory thanks to the support and patches----you might not like my attitude but it is simply the truth----trying to sell someone on the support and patches here ? Just a bit questionable as a marketing technique

So Stardock has the info needed to do the patch, but I'm not sure of their progress. An interesting question is when they get the patch up, which one will it be?

I'll ask again today and see if it finally got completed and if not, I'll see if I can get a time frame. Of course, you probably know how difficult it can be to get info on when a patch will be available, but I'll try.

I told the person who submitted the ticket about the situation, but I forgot about this thread. Sorry about that.

Maybe you should just try Impulse out and see if there's an update? The patch at that time was v11.1.8, so it's possible that the patch they'll have first will be that one, but I'm not positive.

I use Stardock and Steam. I'm not sure how good a job they do in explaining that patches for products bought through them will be available at later dates then those that were bought via other retail methods.

I couldn't find a single item in Stardock's FAQs regarding that, although their forums had plenty of people complaining. Steam doesn't have anything front-and-center too. There's nothing on either site's FAQs that say "if you buy the game from us, don't go to the developer site to apply patches from there."

Impulse has virtually nothing. Steam has buried in their agreement, "You understand that neither this Agreement nor the terms associated with a particular Subscription entitles you to future updates, new versions or other enhancements of the Steam Software associated with a particular Subscription although Valve may choose to provide such updates, etc. in its sole discretion."

Even gargantuan budget games like Dragon Age force you to wait while Steam/Impulse prepares their patches. Frankly, it seems as more of an issue with the way Steam/Impulse are handling it, since this is not a problem unique to OOTP's sales on these online outlets. It isn't even close, I'd wager that every major game has some thread "why does so and so have a patch and Steam/Impulse doesn't have it yet."
