Help exporting files

Guys,

I've got an owner in the SOBL who can't get exporting via FTP to work. Other owners exported via FTP with no issues. He's disabled the windows fire wall and re-downloaded the league files several times with no success.

He's using windows. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

thanks,

John

Is it possibly a different version issue?

I'm not sure if the passive/active FTP thing comes into play for non-commissioners, but maybe you should look into that.

My bet is he just hasn't installed the league files correctly. We've had even some long-time OOTP vets get confused about how to install the leagues files so maybe try to explain it in as detailed steps as possible to him. BruceM recently made a good point that you should tell them to extract the files to the desktop first and then move the files so there's less chance that they install the files into the wrong folder.

If you can't easily resolve the issue, try the new tech support site (link in my sig). I haven't seen Alan T in a little while, but I know he did join it and he knows this stuff.

Yeah he's already files a tech support ticket. Since he can export in version X, I'm assuming he put the files in the right place. Especially since he can load the league with no problem. He was able to email me an export.

What do you mean by passive/active FTP?

See this post, particularly the 4th point and 2nd link.

To be perfectly honest, I don't understand what the difference is and I even read a webpage that tried to explain it.

<< One having problems.

When I try to export I get this message.

Could not upload file. Error-201: Connect error

When I try to download the file I get.

Error: could not load file

OOTP 11 is allowed within my firewall and even tried it with the firewall turned off, using Windows Vista Home Premium. Ran OOTP on this laptop for around 4 years now and this is the first problem I've come across be it playing solo or online leagues, any help be much appreciated. Also don't know if it makes a difference but OOTP X is working fine in exporting and downloading in other leagues I'm in, and the SOBL is the only OOTP 11 league I'm in.

I checked the conifg file and I do have passive mode set so I don't think that's the problem. Thanks for the idea though.

do you know of an logs I can enable that may give me some info?

No one in my league can export at all. So at least part of your league is working. If I hear back from the tech support team I'll let you know what they think! Chris

Sorry, I don't. I actually don't know this stuff nearly as well as I'd like. If you can't get help from tech support on this then you may want to go straight to Andreas about it. Always go to tech support first though and try to give them some time.

Sorry, I have been traveling for work alot lately. Without getting too much into details, lets just say work has been hectic to the point of stressful for me.

I'm trying to catch up on issues that people are having problems with that I can help with. The easiest way to determine what might be your problem is for you to turn on ftp debug log, attempt to export and then send the log to me in PM. I can take a look at the log and will give you some assistance based on what I see there.

(To get an FTP log, go to Game Preferences from the Main screen, then click on the Troubleshooting tab. Choose to write FTP debug info to file and click ok. Once you are done exporting and it fails, go back to this and choose to open the ftp_trace.txt .. just copy that file in a PM to me and I'll look at it)

Can anyone in your league download the file either in game? If they can not do either in game, did you make sure to send them the accountsdata_gms.dat file to the entire league with the proper information inside?

I'm getting the same error message when I try to update the league file. I'm not a commisioner, just a GM. I've followed the instructions Joe ( The Baseball Chronicle) has given me but the file won't update. I get an image that says it is updating to 60% then the error window pops up.

Can anyone help?

Sure, do an FTP Trace log as I explained how to do it above, and then send the log to me via PM. I'll take a look at it.

Is your download taking too long? I was in a league once in X where I'd always get the "Could not load file" error because my connection was too slow, which I'd guess could be solved by changing a setting on the server for ftp timeout or whatever.

I submitted a ticket.

MBL-616024

Hopefully I can get some help real soon.

Here's what I am getting when I try to import a new league file:

1.Click on OOTP button from my manager's page
2. Load Online League File
3. The league appears to load to 60%
4. Error: Could not open a connection to the FTP server.

Am I doing something wrong?

We actually got around this error by re-creating new leagues and importing the league files. After that we were able to upload files to the comisioner

If the entire league is getting errors exporting, it most likely means the online settings gm file was not created or sent out properly most likely. Sounds like you have resolved it by recreating things though, so mostly posting this in case other people encounter this same issue later on.

Alan T,

I tried to find a way to PM/email you and cannot find neither so I hope you see this post. As you illustrated above here is the FTP debug dialog:

FTP_CLIENT object created
FTP_CLIENT callback rate set to 300 ms
Set connect-, read- and idle-timeout to 30000 ms
Set connect-, read- and idle-timeout to 30000 ms
FTP_CLIENT:pen - host set to ftp.billychapel.com
FTP_CLIENT:pen - user set to mlsb_download+billychapel.com
FTP_CLIENT:pen - password set
FTP_CLIENT:pen - port set to 21
set to passive mode
Closed connection
FTP_CLIENT object destroyed

Chilkat session log:
--------------------

It should be noted I am using my company laptop with their Internet, while gaming sites are blocked my league's site isn't. Please help!

Is that the entire FTP log? If so, my guess is your company has some form of proxy requirement for accessing the internet. Your web browser is likely using the proxy, but your ftp client is unable to. Just a hypothesis based on what you posted though.

That is it in it's entirety. Does that mean I can't import/export from that laptop if it exclusively uses the companies server? Any work-arounds?

And thanks for the quick reply.
