Potential..Stars vs. Numbers
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but how do you feel about the two? I've only played using the numerical system, but am contemplating using stars. Is it harder, easier? Any thoughts?

I don't use either. I evaluate the players myself because I don't trust the AI to see things the way I do. Plus, if you know the overall potential the AI give a player, you have a good idea on how they will value them in a trade.

I use numbers. Dumb as it may sound, those little half stars on my laptop aren't easy to distinguish.

So you don't use ratings at all? I understand what you are saying though. I've been playing since OOTP7 but really got INTO it during versions 9 and 10. I'd say that have gotten good at judging talent myself, almost to the point where I feel I can maybe easily rip the AI off if I don't use some discretion. But I am curious as to whether or not Stars make it harder than Numbers. |

I use scouting but turn Stars off. There are to many screwy things that don't make sence. I make my own overall based on there statistical performance and the scouts opinion. And even at that I pay more attention to the ratings trends rather than the actual number.

I wish there were more options, like 1-10 or 1-20.

Numbers. I don't like the stars, no real reason.

Beavis, the only options for the overall and potential ratings are stars or 20-80. Why those are the only two options I do not know.

I only use stats. I turn all ratings off. It does two things. First, it makes the game more challenging because I have to "trust my gut" when evaluating a player by stats. Second, the game just feels more realistic. I can't say why but I don't find myself saying "stupid AI why would you release a guy hitting .350" because it doesn't do that if you set it to evaluate players based on stats too!

I haven't played OOTP in many years, but 20-80?
Is that because you're throwing out the edge standard deviations? (81-100 & 0-19) |

Stats only! No ratings, no stars, no coaches/scouts. The biggest challenge and the best way to play in my opinion!
