uploading files

Im having a problem updating my files via game. I always have to archive them and upload them (league file and reports) via ftp (Filezilla). Which I dont mind doing the reports through ftp but id like to get the league file corrected so that way people can update their files via game.

When I test online settings to connect to my server, which they do! However it says "ATTENTION - OOTP could not open the folder '/ibl/ ." Which is wierd is because thats where my whole website is.
*Like this for all online settings setups

Another problem is my export directories on the server. I have two directorys on my server called "export" and another called "import_export". Yet when I try to upload the file or people try to export it says it was unable to export directory?

If the test works then that means the FTP path is there and it can see it when the game attempts to test-connect. Then if it is giving you the error that it can not open the directory when you attempt to actually do the upload, that usually is a sign that the folder permissions on the server is not correct.

ie: You have the directory on the server, but it is not set up to allow write access to it via the ftp account you are using.

Did you create a separate FTP account for OOTP use? If not, I recommend doing so. Here is what I suggest...

1. Create an FTP account for OOTP as such...

Usually your main FTP account has access to everything from the root directory on down. If your website was www.mysite.com, more than likely, your main website files reside in public_html/. Therefore make a new folder and call it "ootp". Then create an FTP account that ONLY has access to the folder public_html/ootp.

2. Inside the "ootp" directory, create more folders with names "lgreports", "lgexports", "lgfile".

3. Now configure your OOTP X FTP to your new FTP account. Where it asks for target directories, you put in "lgfile", "lgreports", "lgexports" accordingly. No need to add "ootp/lgreports" because after connecting, the game will already be inside the "ootp" directory, and thus will not find a directory so named.

4. Make sure you name your league something like "myleague.lg" in the FTP setup of OOTP. Check the boxes that ask if you want the game to store the FTP account info in the league file.

Once your league members have a copy of this new league file, they should extract it to their saved_games folder and make sure that the extracted files are inside a folder called "myleague.lg". If not, be sure to change the name of the folder.

After that, they will be able to update in-game and you will be able to archive and upload in-game. If the file is extremely large, just continue to use FileZilla and make sure the name of your file remains consistent or your league members will not be able to update in-game.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The above instructions are the simplest way of achieving what you need to do but they are not the most secure. Once you get the above working, you should attempt to go a step further and separate into 3 FTP accounts or test not using FTP for the league file download.

"Error: could not get file information."

I'm in an on-line league and, after our first draft, the first new file (second league file overall) was produced . . . but when I try to load it from in-game, I get the above message. I don't know yet if others in the league are having the same problem, but working from a Mac platform, I'm wondering if that's part of the problem . . . as it seems to be with so much else in this blankety-blank version.

Your commish may have made an error with the new FTP setup page. These things were bound to become an issue when these new, more complicated, yet more secure options were added.

Everyone has the ability to go into Game -> FTP options and verify what your current league file download options are set to. You should be able to compare your settings there with anyone else in the league and see what might not be set right on your end.

havent tried any of this...will try when i get off work. Hopefully this works. I just want to be able to upload file and get exports. Without trying any of this, just had 2 questions on this before i start. the website is at thebatteryshack.net/ibl/ (i have the whole league website and file in the /ibl/ directory

do the directories (folder) have to be called lgreports, lgexports, lgfile folder or can they be like reports and exports (currently have)? also can i put the league file (iBL.tar.gz) in the ibl directory or do I need to put it in like a lgfile directory?

If i just copy the league file and export it to server via filezilla, obviosuly overwriting the old file. The gm's will still be able to update via game?

PS - Off at 3 pm and will try then to get this to work.

I set it up exactly as you told me to in the email; I left "Target Path on Server" and "Source Path on Server" blank.

Tests and upload work fine. It's just on download, I get an error. The tests say that 'OOTP connected successfully... folder " exists.'

My hosting is on godaddy.com. How would I go about setting up an FTP Account for ootp? I never had to do it before.

I made my a subdomain. ibl.batteryshack.net

Also first two connect and finds the path "/" however when i try to upload the league file it wont go and errors out.

exports, imports, and reports still cant find the folders and they have write permissions. So if you could help walk me through setting up an FTP Account for ootp on godaddy.com

Make sure your league name is filled in correctly in the game FTP settings. And make sure you have checked the boxes "Use FTP for league file download" and for "Save FTP account data in league file"

Then make sure everyone has a new copy of THIS league file.

GoDaddy isn't very OOTP friendly. You might want to PM Satchel, as he used to use GoDaddy and may be able to tell you how to create FTP accounts there. My clients have access to cPanel which is pretty straight forward when it comes to creating FTP accounts.

i use it because its free...but i could do your 7 dollars a month if you set the webpage up however I would like to use my layout and add in your java chatroom and statslab onto the navagation. Also have the gms news articles go on to the main page...wouldnt make it easier for me to figure out this file upload and exports. I could put it on the server i use and have you input the information.

Godaddy.com is a mass-shared hosting type of business and they are much different than most standard types of shared hosting that provide cPanel. You would probably be better served calling godaddy.com's support. I see on their website they have 24 hour phone support.

As for allsimbaseball.com's service...

Joomla 1.5 and phpbb 3 are installed for each client and the client is given a choice from a large number of templates for both site and forum to get the look as close as possible to what they have in mind. If you are comfortable building your own website, that is completely fine, but most find that Joomla is quite efficient at what it does.

FTP for OOTP is setup for you and there isn't really anything that needs to be figured out as far as that goes.

GoDaddy's terms of service forbid any one directory folder from holding more than 1024 files (this restriction might not be explicit in the terms of service, but it was later made clear to me). This makes the use of GoDaddy, for hosting [i]OOTP[/] reports, completely impractical.

You can temporarily get away with exceeding this limit, but the site won't function correctly (for example, unarciving a reports .zip takes an excessive amount of time, when it should be very quick), and as soon as they detect your violation, they'll short-circuit you.
