My only problem with OOTP

I have been a long time user and hardly if ever post. I realize that OOTP is not a perfect but nor do I ask it to be. For many iterations things about the game have frustrated me or bothered me but I havent posted. I'd like to say a few things though as I seeing growing anger on the boards...

I understand the natural inclination to think that the games release should conincide with the begining of the baseball season but this is a false premise and you only have yourself to blame for this assumption. Anyone who has bought the game in the past knows it is released in spring time and that means prior to June 20th the game is not late.

2nd:I grew up playing MicroLeague Baseball and other games. I love those games and think they are great. While I would love a graphics on that level I do also realize that that is a tall order. I will admit that basic stick-figure, if you will, graphics would be fun and enhance in bringing the player into the game.

3rd: I'd much rather focus on what we do have. OOTP is a great sports sim. My only problem with it is that there isnt a Football, Soccer or Hockey version. My kingdom for a football game like OOTP!!!!

Version 10 will be released soon. Many of us will love it. Some will think it is ok and others will hate it. Either way it is all ok. I did not pre-order OOTPX because I dont mind paying the extra $10 to get the product when it is ready.

Just my two cents. I know this was long thank you for reading.

Now here is a good quality post of the opinion of someone who's been here since 2002 and 'never posts'. Much props and point well taken. Well said buddy!

On the first point, I think it's mostly the people who want to play the current season rosters who get upset about the game not being available at the beginning of the season, and I can't really blame them for that. They want to play the season as it unfolds, I guess. Personally it's never bothered me because I play only historical and fictional, so I'm just as happy playing OOTP in December as in April.

Even though I also play exclusively historical, I gotta admit I get a baseball jones around Opening Day.
Perhaps we will see another partial update season instead of a full redesign that will let Marcus get into the rhythm of baseball season.

i get ur point about the pbp graphics. im ok with circles not stick figures
ball flight, fielder response & runner actions would be uberawesome

i suggest a football sim with ootp baseball's statistical range and mutant league football's graphics engine

I'm ok with this. I'm not really interested in seeing animation, other than maybe a good ball flight graphic. The faces on the field show me enough of what the situation is that it serves its purposes. Besides, I focus on the play by play text to really pay attention to what's going on on the field during plays.

I don't think we need graphics all that much, but if they can get the level of graphics in ESPN Gamecast, that would be awesome.

Yes, a football (American and Soccer) sim game would be excellent, wouldn't mind paying for those games.

There is a game out there for soccer - Football Manager.

Except, of course, it has nowhere near the customizability of OOTP, nor the capacity for historical leagues. Football Manager, much like Front Office Football for American football, is geared almost completely towards recreating the current-day environment.

At least, that was the case the last time I looked at either game.

True, but FM is the gold standard for sim games. Anyone who has yet to play it needs to give the demo a whirl...

The going rate for mighty tasks like that and dragonslaying is half your kingdom and, if you have a marriageable daughter available, her hand in marriage.

But I agree with the sentiment. The world needs a football game like OOTP. Instead it has a soccer game something like OOTP. Life sure isn't perfect.

It makes the world go round.

Consider your legendary dragonslayer. Unless the king he is slaying the dragon for has no suitable daughters available then he can only slay one dragon, for after that he will be a married man and his wife would never let him go do such a thing again.

So if a legendary dragonslayer wanted to be a dragonslaying ace and get five or more then he'd have to carefully select his target kingdoms. There's probably a short story in there somewhere.

Your wrong. You can edit the whole Football Manager database to your liking. FM is probably the best sports sim there is.

But you can't change the league totals, can you?
